Huawei pledges support for Jordan’s national development plan

[Beijing, September 8, 2015] Huawei Rotating CEO Guo Ping today met King of Jordan Abdullah II bin al-Hussein in Beijing. The two parties exchanged views on various topics, including the Jordan 2025 Development Plan, national ICT strategy, ICT industry development, and talent cultivation.

King Abdullah II remarked, “The Jordan 2025 Development Plan was released in May this year. The ICT industry, which I sponsor, is one of the key sectors covered in the plan. I’m very impressed by Huawei’s rapid growth in Jordan, the active role it has played in building our ICT infrastructure, and its commitment to cultivating local talent. As the plan takes off, I believe Huawei will contribute more to advancing our ICT industry, promoting ICT adoption in our government and public facilities, and cultivating ICT professionals.”

Guo expressed thanks to the King for his continued support of the ICT industry, including Huawei. He said, “The future will be a Better Connected World. I believe ICT can significantly boost socioeconomic growth. As a global ICT leader, Huawei is poised to help Jordan implement its national plans and drive its ICT industry forward. We are also committed to cultivating ICT talent in Jordan. A key part of the commitment will be our Seeds for the Future program.”

Huawei began operating in Jordan in 2005. Currently, Huawei is a strategic partner of three major Jordanian operators. Huawei has also actively promoted the smart city, e-education, and e-health solutions to drive ICT adoption in Jordan’s key industries. Additionally, the company has invested heavily in cultivating local ICT professionals, and has recruited over 80% of its local staff from Jordan.
