Tours of the TE SubCom Factory and Cable-Laying Ship Commemorating the Launch of AEConnect Will Take Place in New Hampshire, U.S.
DUBLIN, IRELAND and EATONTOWN, NJ — August 3, 2015 — Aqua Comms Limited (AquaComms), a provider of scalable, subsea capacity-based network solutions, announces today that cable for its America Europe Connect (AEConnect) subsea fiber optic system is being loaded for deployment. TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Limited company, designed, manufactured and is loading this state-of-the-art cable system from its factory in Newington, New Hampshire, U.S., onto its cable ship Reliance, one of eight cable-laying ships the company owns and operates. This significant milestone will be celebrated in Newington with guided tours of the factory and ship.
The events in New Hampshire will celebrate the official launch of AEConnect’s installation phase, which is on schedule to be ready for service in late December 2015. AEConnect will span more than 5,400 km beneath the Atlantic Ocean with branching units for future landings and will interconnect with CeltixConnect, an Irish Sea subsea cable wholly owned by AquaComms, providing extended connectivity to the U.K., and greater Europe. When complete, the system will connect Point of Presence (PoP) locations in North America and Europe.
“When TE SubCom’s ship leaves port, AquaComms’ vision to build and operate a diversified, solution-based network that will serve global data centers, cloud-based networks and content providers will be but 5,400 km and a few months of hard work from becoming a reality,” says Greg Varisco, COO of AquaComms. “This is truly a momentous milestone in the present and future state of connectivity between North America, Europe and beyond, and we thank TE SubCom, our foundational customers and investors in joining us on this historic journey.”
AEConnect will utilize the latest optical technologies to provide the most advanced subsea telecommunications system, with a control plane based on an innovative Software-Defined Network (SDN) platform to serve bandwidth-intensive applications. Featuring the latest technology and a design capacity of 130 wavelengths at 100 Gbps on each fiber pair, AEConnect will provide low latency and high reliability to satisfy the capacity requirements of direct data center-to-data center and machine-to-machine connectivity across the Atlantic. AEConnect, which has achieved $130 Million USD in pre-sales to date, is a product of collaboration with TE SubCom and key customers.
“TE SubCom is pleased to join AquaComms in celebrating this significant milestone in the project cycle of the AEConnect fiber optic cable system, and look forward to the successful completion of the project later this year,” states Aaron Stucki, CEO of TE SubCom.
