FREDERICTON, New Brunswick–(BUSINESS WIRE)–F6 Networks, a New Brunswick provider of dark fibre and network services, today announced the completion of its 500 km northern New Brunswick Route connecting the following communities to the company’s international telecom backbone:
- Doaktown, Miramichi, Shippagan, Bathurst, Dalhousie, Campbellton
With CANARIE as an anchor customer and the support of the Government of New Brunswick, F6 Networks has expanded its open access fibre network to the northern communities of New Brunswick. CANARIE provides digital infrastructure for research, education and innovation, and partnered with F6 to build the eastern corridor of its ultra high-speed national research and education national network. With this new network build, F6 Networks provides open access and customized, high-capacity fibre optic infrastructure that is critical to the evolution and growth of the ICT industry in New Brunswick and the region.
“Our vision for New Brunswick is to regain our leadership position as having the most advanced telecommunication infrastructure in North America. Broadband for the home provided by some of Canada’s leading residential providers and Open Access connectivity for Enterprise, Research & Education, Healthcare and Government enabled by F6 are key components of that vision. ” said Tom Rivington, CEO of F6 Networks.
“We are pleased to partner with F6 and would like to congratulate the company on the completion of their dark fibre build to northern New Brunswick, connecting New Brunswick to the Northeast US and Quebec. This investment is a critical piece of infrastructure providing better access to the business community with more robust, secure, and cost-effective networks,” said Stephen Lund, Chief Executive Officer, Opportunities NB.
“Having research, education and business communities operating on similar advanced information and communications technology (ICT) platforms naturally invigorates opportunities to build our digital economy. A strong digital infrastructure is a necessity for global competitiveness,” said Mark Wolff, Chief Technology Officer at CANARIE.
The build was completed despite conditions that included two of the most difficult winters in recent memory and Hurricane Arthur. F6 is very proud of the teamwork exhibited by its subcontractors and linemen, who build the underpinning of these modern telecommunications systems. Main subcontractors CNF Mallet Ltee of Shippagan and K-Line Construction Ltd of Woodstock employed, at peak, 75 people (lineman, flaggers, engineers, project managers, splicers and other personnel).
F6 Networks would also like to thank Bell and NB Power (as owners of the pole infrastructures) with whom ongoing cooperation is essential for the expansion of telecom services for all New Brunswickers.
