Sonus Appoints William Hartwell Vice President of Federal Government Sales

Sonus Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:SONS, news, filings), a global leader in enabling and securing real-time communications, today announced that William Hartwell has been appointed vice president of Federal Government Sales at Sonus effective immediately. Hartwell will be responsible for driving revenue growth and the execution of strategic programs for Sonus’ Federal business. Currently, Sonus solutions span more than 350 United States government locations.

Prior to Sonus, Hartwell led Riverbed Technology’s federal presence as the company’s vice president of Federal Government Sales, where he was responsible for implementing Riverbed’s “IT Performance” solutions and services for Wide Area Network (WAN) Optimization, Application Acceleration, Network Visibility and Continuous Monitoring throughout the United States federal civilian agencies, Department of Defense (DoD) and intelligence community.

Before Riverbed, Hartwell was vice president of Business and Channel Development of Government Markets at Motorola Solutions, where he developed teams to drive enterprise mobility solutions into the public sector. Hartwell also spent nine years at Cisco Systems as operations director where he managed and developed senior sales, systems engineering, channels and business development teams equipped with extensive customer and industry knowledge across all federal markets for L2/L3 networking solutions.

Hartwell resides in Virginia.

“Growing our federal footprint beyond our current United States government locations is a top priority for our company,” said Michael Swade, senior vice president, Worldwide Sales, Sonus. “Bill brings more than 20 years of experience to Sonus and possesses the critical skills required to assess, enhance and execute our strategy of expanding sales and strategic programs in the federal space.”

“As United States government communication networks transition from TDM to SIP, an increase in demand is created for solutions that bring interoperability to ensure real-time communications are delivered reliably, securely and without compromise,” said Hartwell. “Sonus has conducted extensive work to ensure that the Sonus solutions meet stringent government agency requirements and I look forward to expanding our presence and reach within this market.”
