FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM Sets New Industry Benchmarks for Density, Scalability and Energy-Efficiency
San Francisco, California, USA. June 1, 2015. ADVA Optical Networking today launched its all-new Data Center Interconnect (DCI) solution. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM has been jointly engineered with leading Internet Content Providers (ICPs) and Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) to ensure that it meets stringent density, scalability and energy demands – something it does with ease. Available in multiple chassis configurations, including four rack units (4RUs), the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM features the market’s first 400Gbit/s single line card. It can transport up to 25.6Tbit/s duplex capacity per fiber pair from a single rack, delivering 51.2Tbit/s of total throughput at 1.4Tbit/s per rack unit. And this includes amplifiers, multiplexers and all other necessary components – a first for the industry. The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM has been designed from the outset to be an open DCI solution featuring open hardware and software interfaces and protocols. This will prove vital for ICPs and CSPs as they seek to develop true best-of-breed networks.
“The DCI market is experiencing one of the most fundamental shifts in its history. The phenomenal success of ICPs and CSPs, along with the continued adoption of cloud-based services, means that DCI networks are struggling to transport enormous amounts of data,” said Christoph Glingener, CTO, ADVA Optical Networking. “Such a fundamental shift in demand requires a fundamental shift in technology. This is the genesis of our new FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM. It’s something truly unique within the industry. We worked closely with the key players here to build exactly what was required. Our 4RU chassis is a clear example of this. Everyone we spoke to said they needed a chassis that isn’t too large and isn’t too small – the 4RU is the sweet spot for the DCI market. What makes our solution stand out even more from the industry is its energy consumption. Our ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM transports 2Tbit/s of duplex traffic at less than 1 kilowatt. That’s less than 500mW per Gbit/s. These figures are at least 2 times better than any competitor.”
The ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM has been specifically engineered to scale. That’s why there’s no client port lock-in. As new Ethernet data rates emerge, they can be supported by plugging new line cards into the entire range of chassis. What’s more, by using the same line cards in mega data centers, co-location sites and smaller office locations, ICPs and CSPs are able to vastly reduce inventory sprawl. In addition to client port lock-in, the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM also eliminates backplane lock-in and this is a critical factor for future growth. Many vendors use active backplanes that consume unnecessary energy, ADVA Optical Networking’s engineers have developed a modular solution that does not require electrical backplane traffic. This approach eliminates unnecessary electrical processing and needless energy consumption. It also enables ICPs and CSPs to rapidly migrate to the latest data rates with true plug-and-play scalability.
“Our FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM is truly a game changer. It features some of the most advanced technology we’ve ever engineered. This isn’t incremental, it’s exceptional,” commented Stephan Rettenberger, VP, marketing, ADVA Optical Networking. “This is the highest density DCI solution available. It’s the most energy efficient. It has the smallest footprint. It even comes in multiple configurations, including 4RU, to suit specific needs. What’s most impressive though is the capacity. There are no hidden calculations here. It features the industry’s first true 400Gbit/s single line card. While others are still talking about this technology, we’re delivering it. Our FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM is a solution designed by the industry and built by us. Every aspect has been specifically engineered to meet our customers’ demands. With our technology, the DCI network will now be able to exceed all expectations.”
ICPs and CSPs need more than just scale and energy efficiency if they’re to truly expand their DCI connectivity. Software and ease of integration are critical but often overlooked factors. That’s why the ADVA FSP 3000 CloudConnectTM meets all ease-of-use requirements with a simple plug-and-play optical layer that includes auto discovery and provisioning. That’s also why it supports a wide range of customizable APIs for programmability, no matter the size or architecture of the underlying network. From simple point-to-point networks, to meshed networks, to global scale virtualized networks, software integration is effortless with CLI, REST, NETCONF, and RESTCONF all supported. And for advanced virtualized and multi-tenant networks, a network hypervisor with fully open Northbound interfaces is available to abstract the DCI transport network so that end-to-end optimization of multi-layer packet flows is possible.
