On Monday, March 30, at the Sprint® for Chicago event in the Hyde Park Sprint store, Sprint senior executive Jaime Jones and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel pledged to enhance the city’s economic vitality. They announced the installation of hundreds of new cell sites and an expected investment of $45 million in its network infrastructure between now and the end of 2016. This joint effort will also bring more than 300 new jobs to neighborhoods throughout Chicago by the end of 2015.
What’s it like to work for Sprint? Meet Jhony and Mike.
Jhony
Jhony Negron is the sales dynamo among a team of high performers at the Club Cicero Sprint Retail Store. The 23-year-old lead sales consultant, who left BestBuy to work at the “La Villita” (Little Village) neighborhood store near Midway Airport, loves his work, his company and enjoys diverse clientele it serves.
“I was referred to Sprint by a friend last summer and I haven’t looked back,” Jhony says. “If you’re committed to Sprint, Sprint is committed to you. You can move up quickly.”
Johnny and his co-workers have witnessed a significant increase in customer traffic recently, driven by two factors – an improved network and the arrival of new CEO Marcelo Claure.
“A few years ago, Sprint’s network had a stigma attached to it. That is long gone,” Jhony said. “Customers now know our network is top notch and getting better, and they’re leaving AT&T and Verizon to sign up with us.”
The Claure factor?
“Since he arrived the business has been insane. His promotions are so flexible and easy to explain,” Jhony said. “Business is so strong we’re here some nights two or three hours after we close.”
The hot items these days at the Cicero store? iPhones 6s, the LG G Flex 2, Tablet and Harman Kardon Onyx Studio speakers.
Don’t be surprised to see Jhony in the Sprint family for a long time. The Chicago native wants to be a district or area director someday.
Mike
Native – and proud – Mike Treese joined Sprint five months ago with a resume full of customer service experience. He has worked as a waiter, musician, dee jay, teacher and hip hop artist. Today, as a retail consultant at the Sprint Retail store at 1406 E. 53rd St. in Hyde Park, Mike uses those skills to win over new customers.
Applying at Sprint was an easy decision for Treese. He was already a dedicated Sprint customer of seven years – a true believer in getting the best value for his money.
“I came into the Hyde Park store to shop, saw an opening, followed up, and I’m certainly glad I did,” Mike recalls.
Mike and the rest of the Hyde Park Sprint team are energized by the wave of momentum Sprint is enjoying with customers in Chicago. Both said recent network improvements and new pricing has made their jobs much easier.
Treese said the hot devices in his store today are the iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S® 6 edge and Harman Kardon Onyx Studio speakers.
“Interacting with people is easy and fun for me,” Mike says. “I enjoy talking with customers who have questions about technology or who want to get the most out of their devices. Educating them and providing easy-to-understand answers and advice is a lot like entertaining them. It’s fun to see them so excited about their new devices and saving money.”
