DE-CIX New York has successfully completed the process of OPEN-IX certification. The DE-CIX New York Internet exchange now holds OIX-1 certification, which defines the technical requirements, minimum service levels and information-sharing provisions of participating exchanges. Certification was granted on March 9, following review and approval from the OPEN-IX Board.
DE-CIX New York has been growing rapidly since it began operations in early 2014. It is a leading exchange in the New York/New Jersey metro area, with a strong emphasis on both data center and carrier neutrality. DE-CIX New York has added more than 55 networks to its member list since last year, and its numbers continue to grow.
DE-CIX New York functions based on the same principles of openness and neutrality of DE-CIX Frankfurt, which emphasizes a not-for-profit business model and easy entry into the exchange. In the NY/NJ metro area, this means that DE-CIX New York has developed more than 100 access points to the exchange that are located across the metro area in data centers where many members may already have a presence, reducing connection costs.
“My team worked hard to develop DE-CIX New York into an exchange that adds value to the Internet ecosystem in the New York metro,” states Harald A. Summa, President of DE-CIX. “We are pleased that our New York operation is now certified by Open-IX. This confirms our high operational and technical standards.”
Among other sites, DE-CIX New York operates in major data centers such as 60 Hudson Street, 111 8th Avenue, 32 Avenue of the Americas, 85 10th Avenue and 165 Halsey Street in Newark, NJ.
The Open-IX Association (OIX) is a 501(c)(6) non-profit industry association formed to promote better standards for data center interconnection and Internet exchanges. The OPEN-IX technical requirements for Internet exchange points (IXPs), OIX-1, outline a minimum level of functionality for exchanges and deliver publicly available information to the participants of the exchange about the quality and functionality of its service offering, physical infrastructure, operations and more.
