Dawn of 4K Era: Huawei Announces World’s Fastest Scale-Out Storage System OceanStor 9000

[Hanover, Germany, March 19, 2015] Huawei announced OceanStor 9000, the world’s fastest scale-out storage system aimed specifically at the media industry at CeBIT 2015 in Hanover. This system will help customers build media production platforms that easily meet the challenges encountered during the evolution to 4K.

4K ultra-HD video promises to bring an impressive, vivid experience to customers. As the burgeoning field of 4K ultra-HD production matures, the media industry’s investment in market applications has moved to the mainstream. Providing high-quality video content is without a doubt the core competitive edge of broadcast media companies.

“Changes in the media industry market have proven difficult for the IT industry,” said Joerg Karpinski, Sales Director of Enterprise Germany, Huawei. “To address the changes, Huawei has released a media solution that features ultimate performance, energy efficiency, and simplicity. The solution meets requirements for 4K UHD editing and propels the application of 4K technology in the media industry forward.”

Huawei 4K UHD production solution mainly employs an OceanStor 9000 storage system. Its unique eTurbo UHD video editing speed-up technology and world’s fastest 400 GB/s throughput make the solution the industry’s first to meet video production requirements for six layers of UHD editing.

The OceanStor 9000 provides industry-leading flexible scalability to 288 storage nodes that provide up to 60 PB of storage space. The storage space can be linearly expanded along with business growth. By building a flexible, online media resource pool, the OceanStor 9000 enables smooth transition from HD to 4K UHD. Thanks to its high-density, energy-efficient system design, the OceanStor 9000 reduces space usage by 200% and energy consumption by 30%, further lowering the OPEX of media asset.

Employing an innovative, converged architecture, one OceanStor 9000 is able to provide resource sharing for all media workflows, including ingesting, editing, playout, management, and storage. The free, intelligent data flow enabled by the system eliminates storage silos of traditional media architecture to boost efficiency of all workflows while bringing down the management cost.

“Anticipating the IT industry changes and trends, Huawei Storage constantly innovates to optimize industry solutions and collaborates with partners to offer industry-leading products and solutions that help customers grow business,” said Fan Ruiqi, President of the Huawei Storage Product Line. “In the media industry, Huawei innovates and optimizes the OceanStor 9000 for 4K video editing and workflows so that the product becomes the solution of choice for customers to transition to 4K UHD video editing.”

Huawei’s major booth is located at Booth B30, Hall 2, at the Hanover Exhibition Center, and with big exhibition zone at China Pavilion in Hall 6. CeBIT 2015 runs from March 16 to 20 in 2015 at Hannover, Germany. For more information, please refer to Huawei’s dedicated mini site here: http://enterprise.huawei.com/topic/2015Cebit/.
