World’s third largest cloud hosting company expands in SCL2 facility
NEW YORK – February 17, 2015 – Telx®, a leading provider of global interconnectivity, data center solutions and cloud enablement services, today announced that the third largest cloud hosting company in the world, DigitalOcean, has expanded its cloud platform after deploying additional virtual servers in Telx’s SCL2 data center in Santa Clara, CA.
Also headquartered in New York City, DigitalOcean is a web hosting platform created for developers, where users can spin up a virtual server, or “Droplet,” in 55 seconds to access DigitalOcean’s secure, fast, reliable Solid-State Drive (SSD) servers on which applications and websites can be built. DigitalOcean uses KVM (kernel-based Virtual Machine) to virtualize its servers, and provides more than 380,000 users with a simple, easy to use interface.
DigitalOcean is now housing their non-network infrastructure needs in SCL2, a purpose built, high density, resilient facility that ensures 100 percent uptime. SCL2 is enabling the cloud giant to serve its immediate infrastructure needs while having the flexibility to accommodate the exponential, and unpredictable, growth it has been seeing since inception.
SCL2 further serves as a strategic location based on its proximity to DigitalOcean’s peering and network hubs within the Bay Area. DigitalOcean is also a customer in Telx’s SFR1 data center in San Francisco, which serves as a critically-important network exchange location for the Bay Area. With these two deployments, DigitalOcean is able to ensure their users receive the best possible performance by leveraging SCL2 for its high density compute and storage infrastructure as well as tethering to the peering and network hubs located at SFR1.
“DigitalOcean has a proximity and latency advantage with Telx’s NYC2 and SFR1 data centers as well as scale advantages in the NJR3 and SCL2 facilities,” said Mitch Wainer, Chief Marketing Officer and founder, DigitalOcean. “None of this is possible without national solutions and facilities focused on capability sets and this is why we decided to expand our relationship with Telx.”
“DigitalOcean’s further expansion into Telx’s Bay Area facilities continues to strengthen the Telx Cloud Xchange portfolio, which is our ecosystem of premium cloud solutions from cloud service provider partners,” said Chris Downie, CEO, Telx. “Cloud providers like DigitalOcean add value to the Cloud Xchange by providing unique Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Platform-as-a-Service public cloud solutions that offer speed-to-delivery, elasticity and utility based pricing so organizations and developers can find the best match between available resources and workload demands with national requirements.”
Further information about Telx’s Cloud Xchange expansion for cloud providers and enterprise data center capabilities will be addressed at MarketplaceLIVE East on June 10th 2015 in New York City at the Times Center. Registration is now open.
