[Shanghai，China，November 21, 2014]: Huawei hosts the second day of The Global Mobile Broadband (MBB) Forum 2014, supported by the GSMA and the China Academy of Telecommunication Research of MIIT, in Shanghai, China.
China, the world’s largest 4G network, is where the development of innovative 4G services and the most convergent frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) networks are in progress and increasing in momentum every day. Over 300 cities are going to be connected, making China the most attractive LTE market with tremendous potential.
On the first day of the conference, Mr. Eric Xu, Rotating CEO, Huawei began his opening speech by describing how the network management for mobile broadband is transforming its usage from voice to data. The user experience has become the defining factor. Mr. Xu also affirmed that the user network experience is the primary and essential catalyst that will transform this industry.
For example, viewing a HD movie, the experience of watching it seamlessly without any interruptions and to fully appreciate the audio and visual quality requires much more data than a regular network can provide. This demand increase for data creates opportunities for operators to increase their revenues by simply offering more data services.
MBB network is a dynamic network. A reliable network experience requires the collective efforts of operators, suppliers and industry partners to maintain a high standard user experience. Therefore, choosing the right strategic partner becomes essential for operators.
In spite of this, MBB faces several challenges including multiple spectrum, multi-mode, continuing development, evolution of technology, as well as various types of end-user services. Faced with these challenges, building a network offering high-quality experience is of particular concern for operators. At the MBB forum this year, Mr. Xu presented Huawei’s vision by outlining its corporate strategy for future-oriented target network infrastructure.
Operators should build GSM/UMTS thin networks on low bands like 900 MHz, satisfying previous generation users with basic data service requirements such as voice, roaming as well as other basic data service requirements. The remaining bands, including TDD and FDD, should fall into LTE and combine to offer mobile network data oriented for multiple end-users’ requirements to offer the best end-user experience.
Meanwhile, with large scale LTE deployment currently in construction and industry-wide interest in the topic of 5G, Mr. Xu expressed his thoughts about 5G. Firstly, 5G is still at the research and innovation stage, which was where LTE was back in 2004. As such, clearly defining 5G is of utmost importance, and calls for deep discussions on the definition of 5G. Mr. Xu then followed by sharing his own point of view and prosperity. When it comes to its application, he believes 5G should work for mobile Internet to make it strong. In the meantime, 5G should provide strong support for the development of the Internet. With regards to 5G technology, Mr. Xu stated that 5G is expected is to provide a better MBB experience by meeting the requirements of high spectrum rates, high peak rates, large number of connections and 1ms latency, allowing operator networks to support more Mobile Network of Things (MoT) connections and thereby promoting the MBB industry. He also mentioned that Huawei will continue investing in 5G, working closely with the industry ecosystem and enhancing MoT supported by public networks to discover 5G requirements and promote the development of the 5G industry.
