Centauro Boosts Online Technology Infrastructure with Level 3 Services

SPORTING GOODS RETAILER CONTRACTS LEVEL 3 NETWORK SERVICES TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN LOCATIONS

Nov 10, 2014

SAO PAULO, Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) announced an agreement with Centauro, a large sporting goods retail chain in Latin America, for dedicated Internet services and a private Local Area Network (LAN).

To support recent growth in regional markets, Centauro needed to update its technology infrastructure and services.

“This solution ensures high communication quality between our headquarters in São Paulo, our growing number of physical stores and the data center located in Barueri,” said Luciano Marques, Centauro IT infrastructure and e-commerce manager. “We increased our number of stores by more than 20 percent in the past four years. These services provide a scalable, cost-effective and broad-reaching solution for multiple locations to communicate and collaborate over a fully meshed, private network.”

A key selling point for Centauro was Level 3’s global network. Every Level 3 data center is located directly on its backbone and is carrier neutral. The network allowed Centauro to reduce latency issues and costly metro access while at the same time providing a secure and redundant solution for Centauro’s various locations to share important data.

“Providing the flexibility for businesses to grow has been a key differentiator for Level 3 in the Brazil market,” said Marcos Malfatti, Level 3 senior sales vice-president in Brazil. “Partnered with our reliable service, we have been able to provide Centauro with a powerful solution for their technology needs.”

Centauro has been in the market for more than 30 years and has 175 stores throughout Brazil.

Level 3’s Network

Level 3 has more than 170,000 kilometers (km) (110,000 miles) of routes between cities, 58,000 km (36,000 miles) of metropolitan routes, 53,000 km (33,000 miles) of routes underwater and more than 500 on-net markets. The company also operates more than 350 data centers worldwide, all of which are carrier neutral and located directly on Level 3’s global backbone, reducing latency and costly metro access, providing on-net access to more than 60 countries and offering the freedom to connect to alternative service providers.
