TIM Brasil Selects Coriant for Long Haul DWDM Network

Coriant’s Multi-Haul Transport Platform to Transform TIM Brasil’s Core Network and Meet Future Customer Demands

NAPERVILLE, Illinois, 11 October 2014 – Coriant, a global supplier of dynamic metro-to-core transport solutions, today announced that Telecom Italia Mobile Brasil (TIM), one of the leading telecom providers in Brazil, will deploy the Coriant™ hiT 7300 Multi-Haul Transport Platform. The hiT 7300 is an industry-leading, high-performance optical transport platform optimized for flexible and efficient transport in regional, long haul and ultra-long haul networks. TIM selected the future-proof Coriant hiT 7300 solution due to its flexibility, stability and per-channel transmission capacities.

Widely deployed in the most demanding Tier 1 networks in the world, the Coriant hiT 7300 delivers superior capacity, supports photonic mesh configurations for resiliency and agility, and provides scalability to 100G and beyond. As the second largest mobile telecommunications provider in Brazil covering 94 percent of urban geographies with over 74 million customers, TIM is improving network coverage and fulfilling the ever-increasing demand for high-speed networks in the largest cities in Brazil. The scalability of the Coriant hiT 7300 is central to achieving TIM’s current growth plans.

“To host the 2014 World Cup was no small undertaking and our company needed to be able to support the peaks in bandwidth demand. Over this next year we will continue to invest in our mobile backhaul network to meet the demands of our current customers,” said Cicero Olivieri, Transport Network Director, TIM Brasil. “For this network expansion, we needed a transport platform solution that will easily scale on-demand and provide that reliable “always-on” service for our 74.2 million regular subscribers. We selected the Coriant hiT 7300 solution because it offers the greatest level of optical layer performance and flexibility with the most cost-effective transport solution.”

“Our Coriant team has been working with TIM Brazil since 2008 and we are pleased to continue to strengthen our relationship. In the near future we expect that the network will carry as much traffic as a small city at times. Our hiT 7300 solution will enable virtually unlimited capacity growth with seamless scalability,” stated Roberto Cepparotti, Vice President, Customer Operations Telecom Italia Global for Coriant. “Past experiences have shown us that the demand on the network can present a severe environment where the traffic demand peaks almost instantly, without any knowledge of what devices users will connect with, or their specific applications.”

The hiT 7300 is a foundational component of the Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ solution, a combination of Coriant’s flexible transport infrastructure and an intelligent optical control mechanism. Coriant’s intelligent optical control merges SDN-based multi-layer, multi-domain, hierarchical, dynamic network control with comprehensive network planning tools. Traffic patterns and relationships between network domains are more and more dynamic and even unpredictable in many cases. The Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ solution enables networks to adapt to those dynamic traffic conditions by providing the intelligence and automation for agile, simple and efficient services.

With its rich orchestration layer and a software developer kit (SDK), the Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ solution allows immediate development of new applications that can take advantage of dynamic network capabilities. In addition, because networking planning functions are integrated into this solution, service providers can ensure that dynamic networking capabilities are not compromised as the network expands. The Coriant Dynamic Optical Cloud™ solution combines a flexible transport infrastructure, dynamic network control based on Coriant’s SDN solution, and integrated network planning to ensure that our customers are maximizing their network revenue by supporting differentiated services over an efficient transport network both today and long into the future.
