Overland Park, Kansas (October 15, 2014) – QTS Realty Trust (NYSE: QTS), one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing providers of data center facilities and managed services, and a leader in security and compliance, celebrated the official grand opening of its Dallas-Fort Worth mega data center October 15, 2014. More than 200 local business leaders, QTS customers and staff attended the event including Gerald Farris, Mayor Pro Tem of Irving, Texas, who made opening remarks.
“It is an honor and privilege to officially dedicate and open this QTS facility in the great state of Texas. QTS is powered by its people. We sincerely thank all who made today possible, including the QTS team and our construction and development partners,” said Chad Williams, Chairman and CEO – QTS.
“We are excited to add Dallas-Fort Worth to our growing national footprint. This mega data center furthers our strategy to obtain and revitalize large, infrastructure-rich properties and deliver our fully integrated 3C platform in high-demand data center markets,” Williams added.
QTS places a strong emphasis on community engagement and support through its QTS Community Impact philanthropy program. As part of the open house festivities, QTS presented donations to some of its charitable partners, including the Wounded Warrior Project, U.S. Dream Academy and Christ Haven for Children. Grammy award-nominated vocal artist Wintley Phipps, founder of U.S. Dream Academy, also performed at the open house.
QTS has transformed the 700,000 square foot former semiconductor manufacturing facility it purchased in 2013 into a state-of-the-art mega data center. The data center is part of a 40-acre campus with the capacity to increase by 600,000 square feet for a total of 1.3 million. Designed to LEED standards, the purpose-built facility is structurally reinforced and built with 60’ subterranean concrete piers that isolate the building from movement.
QTS Dallas-Fort Worth is powered by a QTS owned on-site 140MVA dual-fed substation, providing reliable, uninterrupted power and high-density capability. Air- and water-cooled chillers housed in a central utility building add increased redundancy and energy efficiency throughout the facility.
QTS Dallas-Fort Worth houses column free data center halls ranging from 7,000 to 30,000 square feet. In addition, the facility’s robust, diverse fiber network connections will allow QTS to provide carrier-neutral connectivity with maximum flexibility, providing customer access to the area’s numerous network providers.
