Colt announces Dedicated Cloud Access for VMware vCloud Air

London, 14 October 2014

Colt Technology Services has today announced that its customers are now able to access VMware vCloud® Air™ via private network connections. This is a strategic move for the company, and provides a new important capability for VMware. Both new and existing customers can now leverage VMware’s vCloud Air services combined with Colt’s Dedicated Cloud Access to boost the security, performance and reliability of their cloud infrastructure.

Colt has seen an increasing trend amongst enterprise organisations planning to move their data and applications into the cloud. Deployment of Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Software-as-as-Service is expected to grow by over 50% (52%, and 55% respectively) over the next two years in Europe, according to recent Colt research (source: The Tech Deficit). However, consuming such services via the public cloud remains a barrier for many. Many CIOs and IT managers continue to worry about deploying to cloud environments, due to lack of control over connectivity, bandwidth and security. Security was recently cited by IT managers as the area of greatest risk when transitioning infrastructure within an organisation (source: The Tech Deficit).

François Eloy, EVP, Colt Network Services: “IT decision makers clearly understand the benefits of cloud and are open to the potential of moving parts of their business into a cloud infrastructure. Our Dedicated Cloud Access delivered over a private network eliminates the typical barriers for cloud adoption. This means that organisations can tap into the cloud with the same confidence as they would with an existing LAN or WAN, because they have exclusive access to the network as well as total control and visibility over traffic.”

Gavin Jackson, Vice President and GM, EMEA Cloud Services, VMware: “Through VMware vCloud Air, we are helping our customers to manage their private cloud and public cloud platform as one, without compromising speed, security and agility, while reducing cost of ownership. Partnering with carriers like Colt, a long-time and trusted VMware vCloud partner, to provide private connectivity is a core part of this offering. This is important for many applications, and is also an important capability for VMware vCloud Air.”

As organisations continue to adopt cloud services, such as VMware vCloud Air, Colt is set to extend its Dedicated Cloud Access to other leading cloud service providers, with the aim of building a comprehensive cloud service directory for its customers. Naturally, Colt already has Dedicated Cloud Access to its own extensive vCloud offering throughout Europe.

Colt made this announcement at VMware’s annual conference, VMworld Europe in Barcelona, 14-16 October. Colt’s stand is S415.
