Sprint Stores Across D.C. Host Food Drive to Benefit Local Families

WHAT:

“Get Your Cans to Sprint”Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) is collecting and distributing canned foods such as canned vegetables, soup, pasta and meat to benefit local families throughout D.C. All food collected at the end of the drive will be distributed to food banks within the district.

“Dropping off a can of food at one of Sprint’s retail stores is such a simple act,” says Karen Paletta-vice president, Sprint. “The generosity of people who give back means so much to our community. Sprint is excited to know that many more local families will be less hungry through the efforts of this food can drive.”

WHEN:

Friday, August 22, 2014 through Sunday, August 31, 2014

WHERE:

Participating Sprint Retail Stores in D.C.

HOW:

Bring a canned food donation to any participating Sprint store in D.C. to help families across the state. Everyone who brings in a canned donation will receive 20% off one accessory including phone cases, headphones, speakers, power packs and more. This offer excludes Galaxy Gear.

WHY:

While area food banks see larger collections during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, food banks see decreases in supply as demand from families in need of food spikes during the rest of the year.

  • D.C.’s population has a food insecurity rate of 14.5 percent – approximately 91,500 residents.
  • Approximately 28 percent of children in D.C. are living in food deficient households.
