Sprint adds Wi-Fi Calling to two HTC smartphones – HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M8) Harman/Kardon edition

By Mark Elliott

HTC One® (M8) and HTC One® (M8) Harman/Kardon edition join the growing list of smartphones from Sprint offering Wi-Fi Calling with a software update rolling out now. An update notification will be pushed to all HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M8) Harman/Kardon edition customers automatically during the next few weeks.

Wi-Fi Calling is available at no additional charge and lets you use voice and messaging services over existing home, office and public Wi-Fi networks. With Wi-Fi Calling, you will experience improved voice, data and messaging services in locations that previously had limited or no mobile network coverage.

How will customers benefit?

  • Enhanced coverage: Customers will experience better call quality in locations with challenging network conditions
  • Easy setup: Once activated, everything is seamless and happens in the background.
  • Unlimited voice calling and messaging on Wi-Fi: All domestic calling and messaging is FREE (standard CDMA international rates
    apply for international calls).

International Wi-Fi calling will also be available in the coming weeks. It allows customers to make calls and send texts via Wi-Fi in more than 100 countries. The service makes mobile communications possible in places around the world.

Once the download is complete, you will be prompted to install the update. Installation will take a few minutes during which the device will be disabled. Once installation is completed, the device will be ready for use and Wi-Fi Calling can be activated by going to your Apps folder and selecting the Wi-Fi Calling icon.

HTC One® max, LG G3, LG G Flex, Samsung Galaxy S® 4 mini, Samsung Galaxy Mega™, Samsung Galaxy Note® 3, Samsung Galaxy S® 4 with Sprint Spark™ and Samsung Galaxy S® 5 currently offer Wi-Fi Calling, and Sprint plans to expand Wi-Fi calling to additional devices in 2014.
