Silicon Valley’s Tech Secrets to Summer Fitness

By Kevin Kunkel

Featuring World-Famous Fitness Guru and Ultramarathon Runner Dean Karnazes
Comes to Palo Alto Sprint Store on June 21

Just as summer officially kicks off on Saturday, Sprint is making health a focal point of the warm-weather months with Silicon Valley’s Tech Secrets to Summer Fitness (https://www.facebook.com/events/287472318093163/), a free workshop hosted at the Palo Alto Sprint store by ultramarathon runner Dean Karnazes.

Wearable tech is changing sports and fitness, whether in the form of smart phone apps or devices worn by athletes. And the wearables device market is booming: a recent report by the International Data Corporation predicts that the global market will swell to 111.9 million units in 2018. Sprint is in the thick of it by offering popular wearable accessories from Samsung, Fitbit and Jawbone – and all the music accessories you need to ensure that you’ll be fully motivated to burn those calories.

Along with presenting the event in the center of this hub of technology influencers, Sprint has enlisted world-famous fitness expert Dean Karnazes – a guy who ran 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days – to provide tips on how to make the most of your workout by using wearables or turning to the right fitness app. Dean will demonstrate how anyone, from the most-seasoned runners to newbies just getting started, can look and feel their best with the right gadgets. He will also share his tips and secrets for healthier living using these new technologies.

The free workshop will feature gifts for attendees – can you say free “Happy Connecting” T-shirts? – and the chance to win a free Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone or a Fitbit Flex wireless activity and sleep wristband. Following his presentation, Dean will be on hand to sign autographs and meet attendees.

Silicon Valley’s Tech Secrets will be at the Sprint Store, 499 University Ave., Palo Alto, Calif., at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21.
