MRV Explores Latest Packet Optical Trends at June Industry Events

Upcoming conferences invite MRV executives to share best practices for achieving intelligent packet optical networks, 100G transport, SDN and more

CHATSWORTH, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Jun. 17, 2014– MRV Communications™, Inc. (NASDAQ: MRVC) (“MRV®”), a leading provider of innovative packet and optical solutions, announced today it will share insight into packet and optical evolution and convergence trends this month at Light Reading’s Big Telecom Event and IIR Telecoms & Technology’s Next Generation Optical Networking event. MRV’s Zeev Draer and Scott Wilkinson will participate in sessions that explore how service providers, data centers, content delivery networks and cloud providers can empower their networks today for next-generation approaches to converging multilayer services in the metro, 100G transport, software-defined networking (SDN) and more.

“For over 25 years, MRV has helped shape the evolution of packet and optical networks and we know how important it is to collaboratively address new challenges with innovative solutions that meet the needs of a next-generation network,” said Zeev Draer, vice president of strategic marketing for MRV Communications. “MRV’s participation in events like the Big Telecom Event and the Next Generation Optical Networking event allow us to share these experiences, technical expertise and new networking strategies with the packet optical community. We look forward to these events as we continue our commitment to developing intelligent, industry-leading packet optical platforms.”

The Big Telecom Event, held June 17-18 in Chicago, is held in partnership with leading industry organizations that include SDN pioneer the Open Networking Foundation (ONF). At the event, MRV will showcase its innovative new solution, the OptiPacket® (OP-X) metro service edge platform. The OP-X platform breaks new ground in converging industry-leading packet and optical technology into an all-in-one, intelligent, multilayer architecture. Additionally, on Tuesday, June 17 at 3:35 pm, Draer will provide insight on how metro packet-optical transport systems (P-OTS) are enabling service providers to differentiate and generate new revenue streams. His session, titled “P-OTS 2.0: Reaping the Benefits,” will explore true hybrid functionality of these networks and the increase in dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) optics as fiber moves deeper into the network.

On June 23-26 in Nice, France, the Next Generation Optical Networking event will bring together service providers, data center operators and leading optical networking vendors to discuss themes of capacity demand, high-bandwidth packet optical services and the evolution of legacy networks. Scott Wilkinson, MRV’s senior director of technical marketing, will participate in multiple sessions at the event, including the following panels:

  • “Transport SDN – What Does It Mean for Transport, DWDM and Optical Networking?” During the session, held Wednesday, June 25 at 10:10 am, Wilkinson will explore how SDN could change infrastructure, networks and the industry. The session will reveal key use cases for SDN for multilayer optimization and revenue growth through new services. Attendees will learn about SDN scalability in large service provider networks, the transport SDN ecosystem and its standards, hybrid environments and best strategies for transforming packet and optical layers into a converged, programmable network resource.
  • “How is 100G Affecting the Value of the Data Center?” This session, held Thursday, June 26 at 10:00 am, will focus on how design and ROI can impact the value of a data center. Wilkinson will examine how 100G is changing the value of the data center in telcos, as well as which packet optical tools can help achieve the best balance of low latency, reliability and bandwidth.

At each event, MRV will also showcase and demonstrate its latest innovations that are helping network operators achieve more intelligent networks, including the OP-X platform, the OptiDriver™ optical transport platform and Pro-Vision® service delivery and provisioning software.
