Signifies Level 3´s Commitment to Provide Reliable Service
Jun 5, 2014
BOGOTÁ, Colombia, June 05, 2014 – Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) announced it has obtained Tier III Certification of Design Documents from Uptime Institute for its newly constructed data center in Bogotá, Colombia. It is the first data center in Colombia to receive this certification, which requires redundant capacity components and multiple independent distribution paths serving the critical environment.
Uptime Institute’s Tier Classification System provides a consistent method to compare typically unique, customized facilities or designs based on expected site infrastructure performance or uptime. The Tier III Certification of Design Documents signifies the data center design meets the requirements set out by Uptime Institute’s global benchmarking system and standards for Concurrent Maintainability. This means data center operators can isolate components and perform planned maintenance without taking the data center offline or affecting IT Operations.
“Being the first data center to receive this certification in Colombia speaks to Level 3’s commitment to constantly improve the quality of service we deliver to our customers,” said Gabriel del Campo, Level 3’s senior vice president of Data Centers for Latin America. “We know our customers depend on us for a secure and efficient data center experience so it was important that we committed to obtaining this certification from the beginning. The building’s construction process started with a tier gap analysis identifying any areas of improvement and an in-depth analysis of the design to ensure we met the high standards.”
The Level 3 Bogotá data center is managed by an on-site team of experienced technical specialists; the facility meets the latest Colombian building code specifications (NSR-10 Zone 4) for earthquake preparedness, as well as industry guidelines for energy and environmental conditioning from Uptime Institute for a Tier III data center. Additionally, the data center was built using the 2N philosophy (system + system), which results in higher redundancy and reliability.
The Colombian data center offers a holistic solution so customers’ businesses can continue to grow with the right amount of space and power and the services to meet their needs. The facility enables the hosting and managing of business important enterprise information and technology platforms, helping customers to reduce operations, administration and maintenance expenses.
Level 3 meets the burgeoning worldwide demand for data services by bringing additional capacity to its 14 existing data centers in Latin America and to its more than 350 data centers worldwide. All Level 3 data centers are located directly on Level 3’s global backbone, reducing latency and costly metro access, providing on-net access to more than 60 countries and offering the freedom to connect to alternative service providers.
