Huawei SE2900 Recognized by Miercom as Leading Session Border Controller

[Shenzhen, China, June 30 2014]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that its next-generation Session Border Controller (SBC) SE2900 has been recognized as a leading SBC by Miercom, a global leader in security product testing in the United States.

As a session-aware device that manages VoIP calls, Huawei’s SE2900 SBC was tested by Miercom in terms of capacity, security, overload protection, resiliency, and failover, and ultimately awarded the Miercom Performance Verified Certification, in recognition of the industry-leading and differentiated advantages.

“We found the Huawei SE2900 to be a full-featured, high-capacity, solidly performing, carrier-class Session Border Controller,” said Mr. Robert Smither, chief executive officer of Miercom. “The SE2900 can, in our estimation, readily satisfy the intense all-IP and high-security requirements of carriers that are implementing or migrating to a voice over long-term evolution (VoLTE) network or fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) architecture. The SE2900 is one of the best-performing, highest-capacity SBCs for the carrier market that we have tested to date.”

Key findings and conclusions provided by Miercom from the testing process:

  • Powerful performance: Huawei SE2900 supports 2.5 million online users, of which 120,000 users are using call services at the same time, exceeding the SBC specifications of other vendors. Its powerful performance meets VoLTE and FMC network requirements for access resources and potential service increase.
  • Excellent encryption: Huawei SE2900 provides IP Multimedia Subsystem – Authentication and Key Agreement/IP Protocol Security (IMS-AKA/IPSec) signaling encryption for 100% users or Transport Layer Security (TLS) signaling encryption and Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP) media encryption for 50% users, securing data transmission over all-IP networks.
  • High survivability: Huawei SE2900 successfully manages registration storms and defends against traditional assaults such as call overloads, malformed packets, and Real-Time Transport Protocol (RTP) floods as well as blacklists rogue users. Moreover, Huawei SE2900 is able to combat new emerging attacks, including toll frauds and short calls. The highly survivable SE2900 helps carriers construct secure and reliable core networks.
  • High-load operation: Huawei SE2900 easily handles a high-load reliability test for more than 40 hours, with zero service loss.

“Huawei SE2900 is oriented toward 4G core networks, which is an important milestone. The SE2900 is based on the telecom cloud platform and adopts a distributed architecture. It provides differentiation advantages, such as optimal audio/video, professional security, intelligent interoperability, and powerful performance, thereby helping carriers construct highly secure Voice and Video over IP (V²oIP) networks with a high quality of service (QoS), simplify SIP interworking, and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO),” said Mr. Jiang Xiaoli, an SBC product leader for Huawei.

In the past ten years, Huawei SBC has acquired a 19.2% global market share and is now serving five of the top ten carriers. As a key network element for the VoLTE solution, Huawei SBC is facing unparalleled opportunities and will continue to help carriers achieve success.
