Colt’s Carrier Ethernet Multi-Service Platform Named ‘Most Innovative’ by Light Reading

London, 18th June 2014

Colt’s Carrier Ethernet Multi-Service Platform (Modular MSP) has been recognised as the ‘Most Innovative Ethernet Service’ at the Leading Lights Awards at the Big Telecom Event in Chicago. These awards, organised by the international telecommunications publication Light Reading, celebrate next-generation communications technologies and services that drive forward innovation in the industry.

Colt’s fully modular, open and vendor agnostic Carrier Ethernet platform enables a quick turn-up of data services over multi-vendor networks. It is designed to address the complex connectivity requirements of carriers and large enterprises that need to link their data centres and  headquarters with hundreds or thousands of sites across Europe and the rest of the world.

Francois Eloy, EVP Network Services, Colt, says: “We’re delighted that our dedication to service excellence has been recognised by the industry. In today’s digital economy, our customers rely on us for business-critical IT services and communication solutions. Colt’s Modular MSP is an industry-first solution that enables us to meet businesses’ evolving connectivity needs quickly, today and in years to come.”

A key feature of the platform is that it integrates Ethernet and IP service delivery on a common network infrastructure and comes with virtual CPE capabilities for Internet  Access and IPVPN services.  By enabling hybrid networking, customers are able to switch from one service to another quickly and easily. An additional benefit is a reduction in the number of different types of on-premise equipment, which in turn minimises the requirements for configuration and maintenance.

The Modular MSP has software defined networking (SDN) and automation at its core, bringing carriers and enterprises agility and flexibility to scale capacity.  As their demands change, businesses are able to add capacity or order new services that best meets their needs quickly and easily via a self-service portal with a software-defined network-enabled controller.  Partners contributing to the development of the solution include CyanAccedian, Juniper Networks and Alcatel Lucent.

Luke Broome, CTO, Colt, says: “We believe that the future of Carrier Ethernet and IP services will benefit greatly from SDN and network functions virtualization (NFV). Being at the forefront of these developments empowers us to deliver innovative services to our customers more quickly.  The Modular MSP represents a step change in the delivery of Ethernet and IP services and highlights Colt’s leadership in this market.”

Colt Modular MSP is currently available in 11 European cities – London, Frankfurt, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Munich, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Amsterdam and Brussels. Colt plans to bring the platform to all European cities it operates in.

The Leading Lights award is the latest in a series of accolades achieved by Colt for its Ethernet services portfolio. In May, the Modular MSP was recognised at the Global Telecoms Business and the Network Virtualisation Industry for addressing carriers’ business challenges in an innovative way. Colt also recently scored five out five in Gartner’s Critical Capabilities Report for Pan-European Network Services. In late 2013, the company won three awards at the MEF Carrier Ethernet Awards for its continued innovation to its Ethernet service portfolio.
