[Amsterdam, the Netherlands, June 26, 2014]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that it has jointly won the “Innovation in HetNet Development” award with Telenor, a leading mobile operator in Norway at the LTE World Summit 2014. The award recognizes both companies’ innovation in bringing the best mobile broadband experience to users of Telenor’s commercial LTE network in Norway, by utilizing Huawei’s LampSite small cell solution.
Statistics from Huawei’s mLab show that 90% of data traffic originates from indoor hotspot areas, such as office buildings and shopping malls, where the deployment environment creates complex challenges to providing comprehensive indoor coverage.
Huawei LampSite is an innovative solution which provides targeted indoor coverage performance enhancements, maximizing user experience and minimizing costs. Through macro cell baseband reuse, LampSite allows for spectrum aggregation and centralized radio resource management, transforming the way operators address capacity and coverage challenges.
With Huawei’s LampSite, Telenor is able to provide average downlink throughput of 46Mbps at any location in a building and significantly cut costs. Deployment of each pico Remote Radio Unit takes only three hours – from site survey, through installation, commissioning, to going live, ensuring rapid rollout in areas with weak signal penetration.
Commenting on the award winning, Mr.Peter Zhou, President of Huawei Small Cell Product Line said: “It is an honor to help Telenor accelerate large-scale LTE HetNet development and provide better end user mobile broadband experience. We will continue to focus on technology innovation and commercial deployment initiatives to help operators meet the needs of their customers.”
Huawei’s LampSite has been commercially deployed in many regions and countries including the Middle East, Latin America, Norway, the UK, Spain, Thailand and China.
