Allworx maximizes flexibility and enhances user security in System Software Release 7.7
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Allworx Corp, a Windstream (NYSE:WIN, news, filings) company, today announced the immediate availability of System Software Release 7.7 for its popular line of VoIP communication systems.
The latest release is designed to offer Virtual Network Interfaces, allowing the Allworx server administrator to separate voice and data by defining multiple virtual interfaces on a single physical interface.
“With 7.7, we’ve provided a variety of very technical enhancements that expand networking options within our voice systems, augmenting system security and reliability,” said Chris Hasenauer, vice president and general manager of Allworx. “This new release continues our commitment to delivering affordable and easy-to-use enterprise-class voice systems to our customers.”
Along with the network PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch, customers can implement the Allworx Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) feature to isolate voice and data for better quality or in an existing network that has VLANS. This will enable inter-VLAN routing and remove the requirement of a Layer-3 device for reaching an individual phone. The VLAN feature also allows customers to isolate other segments of the network, such as a Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) for a firewall configuration for securing Local Area Networks (LANs) or private LAN to a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network.
Release 7.7 also incorporates features for enhanced security. For lost or stolen remote devices, the server can send a wipe command to the device to delete email, voice mail and recordings. The wipe command requires a new user password and restarts the user device.
Password security options in Release 7.7 now offer the choice to enable forced or voluntary password changes for Allworx client applications such as Reach™ and Interact™.
