TeliaSonera International Carrier launches industry-first managed Diameter signaling service

– optimizing cost and service quality for 4G roaming

TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) is now launching its Diameter Roaming Exchange (DRX) service, an innovative roaming solution that enables mobile operators to seamlessly provide subscribers with high-speed, high-quality 4G services outside of their domestic coverage footprint

The DRX service also carries an industry-first managed option that simplifies operations and reduces operator hardware investments, while providing end-users with enhanced quality of experience as well as high-performance connectivity backed by TSIC’s global IPX network.

Simon Dodsworth, Vice President and Head of Voice & Mobile for TeliaSonera International Carrier, says, “This is what we mean by anywhereization; our customers need to cater to the increasing end-user demand for instant access to everything, anywhere. It is the ideal time to be launching our DRX service to mobile operators worldwide.”

Chief among the customers already actively benefiting from the DRX service’s managed option include the TeliaSonera Group´s mobile operators in Sweden, Norway, Spain, Finland and Denmark, with the Baltic and Eurasian operators to swiftly follow. The IPX-based Diameter roaming service successfully carried multiple gigabytes of data roaming traffic for 4G roamers traveling from Sweden and Norway to Spain’s Mobile World Congress earlier this year, an event that converged over 85,000 delegates.

Bernd Hoogkamp, Head of Product Management for Voice and Mobile for TeliaSonera International Carrier, adds “Our managed option is an easy to implement, no CAPEX solution for MNOs as already proven by TeliaSonera’s Nordic operations.”

Currently, there are 260 active commercial LTE networks in 95 countries. As more subscribers migrate to 4G/LTE, the market is seeing an exponential growth in roaming traffic with operators turning to platforms capable of offering end-to-end SLAs to handle the demand. Already today, TSIC´s network supports over 40,000 roamers using 4G roaming per day via the DRX solution; thereby ensuring interoperability for delivering multiple services over one port, including: voice, roaming, signaling, messaging and video with a high-quality user experience.

The IPX network is built upon TSIC’s wholly-owned and fully redundant, 100G-enabled optical network. Ranked one of the top two global IP backbone providers by Internet intelligence authority Renesys, TSIC continuously upholds its commitment to providing a fast, high-quality experience and reliable, always-on connectivity anywhere.
