Sprint and Vantiv Retail Point of Sale Solutions take the toil out of collecting donations

Anyone who collects donations and donor information at charity events knows what a chore that can be.

You want the process to go quickly for everyone involved – benefactors and sponsors would much rather visit in such settings. The “manual paper” recording of patrons’ donations and key personal information is time-consuming and cumbersome, and errors often occur during interactions.

Tim Fahey, president, Dirigo Agency, recently used a mobile point of sale (PoS) app on an Apple iPad on Sprint, the Vantiv Mobile Accept app, and Sprint’s wireless network to gather donations rapidly and securely at two functions attended by hundreds of supporters for the Rockville Science Center.

“We had been missing donation opportunities,” Fahey said. “The convenience of the lightweight and mobile iPad, dependable Sprint wireless connection and Vantiv app had us recording gifts, capturing new members, and gathering email addresses easily. We’ve gone from acquiring a few donations via paper checks to collecting a much healthier number at two early April events.”

The previous “passive system” of prodding folks to the Science Center website or mailing a personal check to the entities’ post office box was very inconvenient. Prospects were lost and the donor base stagnated, especially when large grants to the center for funding required matching donations.

Fahey selected the Sprint and Vantiv Mobile Accept because of its completeness, ease of use as a credit card processing solution, customer services, and competitive price. The app, which was immediately available, was a breeze to test. Donors were particularly impressed by the professional appearance of the email receipt.

Donors and sponsors love the new, easier way to contribute to the non-profit organization they are passionate about – the Science Center.

“By using the Vantiv Mobile Accept on the iPad, we significantly improved and accelerated donations,” said Fahey. “Everyone was thrilled with the results – donors, the Science Center staff, and trustees. Why would we want to gather donations any other way?”

Bob Ekman, trustee president, Rockville Science Center, said, “I’m pleased Tim had the iPad and Vantiv app during the recent Rockville Science Day. We were able to take donations immediately, without waiting for traditional mail or cashing checks. By making it easier for patrons to commit, we’ll increase donations and expand our mission.”
