Cbeyond Extends Fiber Network Availability to SMBs

High-performance, high-speed fiber coming to thousands of on-net and near-net commercial buildings serving smaller businesses

ATLANTA, May 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Cbeyond, Inc. (NASDAQ:CBEY, news, filings), the Technology Ally™ for small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs), today announced advancements of its dark fiber on-net and near-net buildout strategy in which SMBs can now reap the rewards of broadband high-bandwidth fiber optic networks. Companies and partners interested in tapping into Cbeyond’s TotalNetwork™ fiber network nationwide can check Cbeyond Near Net availability in their area at www.cbeyond.com/services/network/fiber-near-net.

Cbeyond – which launched fully-managed, fiber-based broadband networks under its TotalNetwork™ service in much of its footprint in 2012 – is now extending that fiber buildout initiative by deploying dark fiber, which can be turned on as customer demand dictates, to buildings both on its network (on-net) and, as requested, in close proximity to Cbeyond’s fiber rings (near-net). The emphasis will be on large, multi-tenant buildings in Cbeyond markets, including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The company started to deploy dark fiber in Atlanta, Dallas and Denver in 2012. Additional projects began in 2013 in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“SMBs have typically been excluded from fiber network availability, but now there is no reason for that market to be underserved,” said Mark Masi, vice president, Fiber Implementation and Administration, at Cbeyond. “By expanding our fiber network throughout our core market footprint, Cbeyond is offering a greater number of SMBs the option of choosing an affordable, scalable, high-speed network that can positively transform their business.”

Cbeyond began deploying its own fiber network, using the infrastructure and interconnection services of Zayo, in 2012. The company now has over 10 percent of its Metro Ethernet customer base on its fiber network.

Small business leaders are increasingly expecting — and investing in — advanced technologies to help grow their businesses and optimize performance. High-speed, always-on network access was ranked by SMB business leaders as the most important technology to fuel growth, according to the Summer 2013 Cbeyond Business Leader Snapshot survey.

Deploying its fiber network is an important foundation of Cbeyond 2.0, the company’s business strategy that focuses heavily on cloud and other advanced technologies. Some other previously released Cbeyond 2.0 product and service platforms are TotalCloud® Data Center, TotalCloud® Foundation and TotalCloud® Phone System.
