GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., May 20, 2014 — US Signal, a leading Midwest provider of enterprise-level network services and cloud hosting, announced today that GR East, West Michigan’s first-ever purpose-built data center, is nearly ready for customers with the latest installation of surveillance, biometric access and power protection.
“We’re meeting and exceeding Tier 3 requirements to develop a secure, reliable data center to accommodate today’s unique market demands,” said Brad Higgison, director of facility operations. “The needs of our customers for a high security data center supported by diverse fiber routes and redundant backup power drove our decisions for the design and construction of this industry-leading facility.”
The APC Symmetra PX, top of the line Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system is up and running. The scalable power protection system is designed to accommodate 500kVa of UPS backed AC power. Comprised of dedicated and redundant modules – power, intelligence, battery and bypass – the system can scale power and runtime as demand grows or as higher levels of availability are required, without requiring the system to be shut down.
Going beyond Tier 3 requirements, biometric access controls have been installed throughout the data center. Iris scanners allow customers and staff to scan in and out of discrete areas within the facility. An advanced CCTV surveillance system monitors and records activity on the interior and exterior of the building, meeting the Tier 3 requirement of 20 frames per second.
The fire detection system is also now active in all areas of the building (heat and smoke), with manual pull stations using Ecaro 25+ dry gas fire suppression. The dry gas effectively limits exposure of damage to customer equipment.
The fully operational facility will be complete on May 30th.
