Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE : ALU) has announced it has initiated a litigation claiming patent infringement in Federal Court in the District of Delaware against Sophos and its subsidiary Cyberoam.
Alcatel-Lucent seeks compensation for products and services of Sophos and Cyberoam that infringe five patents relating to network security and network management. The company has determined that Sophos and Cyberoam are implementing Alcatel-Lucent’s patented technology in its products and services without authorization.
This is the second patent infringement lawsuit initiated by Alcatel-Lucent in May. Earlier this month, on May 1, Alcatel-Lucent also filed a lawsuit against Fortinet in Delaware on seven patents that Alcatel-Lucent believes are being infringed by Fortinet products and services.
Craig Thompson, VP, Intellectual Property at Alcatel-Lucent, said: “Alcatel-Lucent has made and continues to make a very substantial investment into research and innovation and we have a responsibility to our shareholders and employees to generate value from the intellectual property assets resulting from that investment. Alcatel-Lucent is committed to enforcing and defending our intellectual property rights in court where companies utilize our patented technology without authorization and are unwilling to fairly compensate Alcatel-Lucent.”
