Zayo Invests in Fiber Network Expansion in Northern California

BOULDER, Colo.–()–Zayo Group, LLC (“Zayo”), an international provider of Bandwidth Infrastructure services, today announced a major expansion to its Northern California fiber network. The expansion adds 550 route miles of Dark Fiber in the San Francisco Bay Area, throughout downtown San Francisco and the surrounding communities of Oakland, Berkeley, Palo Alto, San Jose, Walnut Creek and Fairfield. Construction on the project will start in May 2014 and is scheduled for completion in June 2016.

Home to leading technology center Silicon Valley, the San Francisco Bay Area hosts high-bandwidth technology companies such as Internet content and cloud computing service providers, as well as major data center operations. Zayo’s existing San Francisco fiber network includes 920 route miles and 443 buildings, connecting customers to deep metro and long haul fiber networks. When the expansion project is complete, Zayo will have more than 1,500 route miles of fiber assets in and around San Francisco, allowing access to its full suite of high-bandwidth solutions such as cloud connectivity, video transport, Dark Fiber, Ethernet, Wavelength and IP services.

“This expansion is the result of strong growth and demand from our existing customers, as well as new opportunities from prospective customers across the region,” says Matt Erickson, president of Zayo Fiber & Transport Infrastructure at Zayo Group. “Increasing our fiber network by more than 50% in one of the country’s most bandwidth intensive regions provides important connectivity for our customers.”
