XO Communications Introduces Bandwidth-on-Demand

XO Communications today announced a new Bandwidth-on-Demand business networking capability for its wide area networking (WAN) services that provides automatic, burstable bandwidth.  Bandwidth-on-Demand makes it easier for IT and network managers to accommodate unforeseen spikes in network traffic in an efficient and cost-effective manner and provides the flexibility and scalability to support enterprises’ multi-cloud deployments.

Using XO Bandwidth-on-Demand  capability, XO network connections dynamically expand to accommodate extra traffic in the event of unforeseen increases, while maintaining pre-selected Quality of Service (QoS) characteristics. This new XO offering provides “always-on” dynamic network capacity as opposed to alternative solutions that are either pre-scheduled through a portal or burst at only a “best-effort” service level.

“Companies used to have to provision network connectivity, circuit by circuit, purchasing and maintaining the maximum capacity required at any given moment, a costly and inefficient approach to network design,” said Don MacNeil, chief operating officer at XO Communications. “XO Communications takes an innovative approach to networking, allowing the network to flex on-demand. For example, a business can cost-efficiently commit to and pay for a low average usage rate, but have the assurance of increasing bandwidth, on the fly and with assured performance, without having to predict and pre-schedule for anticipated periods of peak usage.”

XO Bandwidth-on-Demand is available with XO network services to power customers’ integrated network and cloud computing strategies. Businesses can use XO Bandwidth-on-Demand to support secure, high-performance network connectivity to public, private, virtual private as well as hybrid cloud environments.  XO Communications also recently announced that it is a Direct Connect Partner of Amazon Web Services (AWS). By providing direct network connections to major cloud environments in conjunction with its Bandwidth-on-Demand capability, XO Communications is ensuring businesses and large enterprises have the fastest and most efficient network on-ramps for their multi-cloud strategies.

“The cloud has gone mainstream and its effect on the network is of paramount importance. A recent study by Forrester Consulting, ‘ Building for the Future: What the New World of Cloud IT Means for the Network ‘ found that 75% of enterprises are using or plan to use cloud-based services. Of these, 88% believe that cloud-based services will have an impact on the network, which clearly demonstrates the need for, and the importance of flexible and scalable network designs that include the Bandwidth-on-Demand capabilities,” MacNeil added.

“As a leading nationwide provider of advanced communications, managed network and IT infrastructure services for business, large enterprise and wholesale customers, XO Communications provides customers a broad portfolio of best-in-class services. In addition to the new Bandwidth-on-Demand service, areas of strength and continued focus include our robust Ethernet portfolio and footprint, hosted unified communications and managed services,” said Chris Ancell, chief executive officer of XO Communications.

IT and network managers can simplify network management with wide area network (WAN) services such as MPLS IP-VPN  and VPLS  from XO Communications. These secure, private network services provide more bandwidth for the dollar by improving the performance of enterprise applications and when used in conjunction with Bandwidth-on-Demand, the savings escalate as companies no longer need to purchase “over-the-top” bandwidth as a safeguard against network usage spikes and surges.
