Overture 6500 Extends Performance-Assured Ethernet Across Any Access

Company’s flagship Carrier Ethernet 2.0 (CE2.0) aggregation and switching platform adds industry-leading Copper density to existing Ethernet over optical and TDM capabilities.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., April 1, 2014 Overture today announced the availability of recent enhancements to its award-winning 6500 service aggregation and switching platform. The new release fulfills the promise of performance-assured Carrier Ethernet over any access method, including fiber, E-Access, copper, SONET/SDH, and TDM, with full resiliency. Additionally, Overture’s introduction of a 96-pair Ethernet over Copper (EoC) interface module makes the 6500 the industry’s highest density EoC solution on the market.

The Overture 6500 is the industry’s only all-access CE2.0 switching and aggregation platform for business and cloud services, wholesale access, mobile backhaul and metro infrastructure applications. Delivering performance-assured Ethernet services over any access from a single platform, the 6500 offers service providers and operators a means to improve and streamline day-to-day operations, resulting in considerable cost savings.

The EoC interface module incorporates Overture’s market-leading EoC technology that offers from 1 to 24 pair bonding across cards for resilient delivery of up to 300Mbps of symmetric performance-assured Ethernet service. The 6500 integrates seamlessly with Overture’s 400, 4000, and 6100 family of EoC Ethernet Access Devices to enable rapid service deployment on any scale.

Additionally, the 6500, a 2013 Stevie Product of the Year Award winner, is the entry point for Ensemble Open Services Architecture™ (OSA), Overture’s open architecture for delivering software-defined services and virtualization at the metro service edge.

With market research showing Carrier Ethernet investments increasing 50% over the next four years, and SDN/NFV investments increasing an order of magnitude in that same period, service providers are now seeking forward-leaning metro service solutions. The 6500 and Ensemble OSA together optimize service creation, activation and assurance, creating an environment for rapid service innovation, reduced operational complexity, and lower costs through automation. As a key component of Ensemble OSA, the 6500 maximizes operational efficiencies and helps providers introduce new revenue-generating services faster and easier than ever before.

The 6500 and Ensemble OSA represent a fundamental new approach for service creation, activation and assurance,” said Keith Donahue, vice president of Product Management, Overture. “Ubiquitous Carrier Ethernet access – as enabled by the 6500 – is the foundation on which virtualization and software-defined services will be used to drive service agility and improve operational efficiency. At Overture, we are committed to helping service providers meet today’s challenges while providing a path to efficiently address future service evolution.”
