Huawei Successfully Completes LTE-A Category 6 Test, Achieving 300 Mbps Peak Speed

[Shenzhen, China, April 29, 2014]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced the successful completion of a LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) Category 6 connectivity test with download speeds reaching up to 300 Mbps. This test was jointly completed with Qualcomm Technologies, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated.

The test utilized SingleRAN equipment available from Huawei and Qualcomm Technologies’ fourth-generation multimode LTE modem – the Qualcomm® Gobi™ 9×35. With simultaneous multi technology capabilities, SingleRAN has established worldwide commercial relevance. The Gobi™ is the mobile industry’s first commercially available cellular modem to be manufactured on 20 nm process. As a positive milestone for successful LTE-A commercialization, the results are evidence of the important interoperability between Huawei’s LTE-A solution and Qualcomm’s new chipset. A peak download speed of up to 300 Mbps was made possible, with added support for up to 40MHz wideband carrier aggregation.

As a key LTE-Advanced technology, carrier aggregation allows for full utilization of operators’ spectrum resources, empowering them to provide faster mobile broadband experiences including video conferencing, high-definition content transmission, high-speed video downloads, social networking and more.

Since the world’s first LTE-Advanced network was launched in Moscow in October, 2012, LTE-Advanced has become a hot technology around the globe. Leading operators such as EE from the United Kingdom, Zain from Kuwait, LGU+ from South Korea, have all commenced LTE-Advanced technology testing and commercial trials.

David Wang, President of Huawei Wireless Network Product Line, said: “The successful test marks an important step for LTE-A commercialization. We will continue to invest in cutting edge technologies and work closely with industry partners to promote the development of mobile broadband around the world.”
