Frontier Communications, CWA Agree to Extend Contract to May 31, 2014

Arndt Notes Progress During Negotiations

CHARLESTON, W.Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Frontier Communications (NYSE:FTR, news, filings) and the local West Virginia Communications Workers of America (CWA) have extended their existing contract until 11:59 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014.

“We continue to make progress during our discussions with the CWA, and we’re hopeful we can build on the common ground that we have established to come to a resolution soon,” East Region Area President Ken Arndt said.

The parties have negotiated since mid-June 2013. The contract expired in August 2013, and Frontier and the CWA have worked on numerous and complex issues during a series of contract extensions.

“Frontier continues to bargain in good faith as we strive to reach a balanced contract that treats employees fairly, allows the company to provide the highest levels of customer service and gives us the ability to succeed in the highly competitive communications industry we continue to face,” Arndt said.

Frontier has invested more than $390 million in West Virginia since it acquired Verizon markets in 14 states in July 2010. During that time, it has increased broadband access from about 62 percent of households in the former Verizon West Virginia markets to nearly 90 percent today. Frontier has property in all 55 counties and paid $27 million in state and local taxes last year.

“West Virginia is a key state for our company, and we are proud that our employees are part of the communities we serve,” Arndt said. “We look forward to a long and prosperous future in serving the residents, businesses and institutions of West Virginia.”
