Sprint starts Android 4.4.2, KitKat, upgrades for Samsung devices

Sprint began rollout of the latest version of Android™ to select Samsung Galaxy® devices. Samsung Galaxy S® 4 (released Feb. 13) and Galaxy Note® 3 (released Feb. 20) were the first devices to get Android 4.4.2, KitKat.

Additionally, Sprint plans to update Galaxy Note® II, Galaxy S® 4 mini™, Galaxy S® III, Galaxy Mega® and Galaxy Tab® 3 7.0 to KitKat. Exact timing of these updates will be shared at a later date.

The upgrade provides a number of innovative, easy-to-use features that enhance the Samsung Galaxy user experience, including a more intuitive user interface, enhanced messaging capabilities and updated applications:

  • Location Menu: An integrated location menu enables users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks, while simultaneously checking the battery usage of apps running location service capabilities.
  • Enhanced Messaging: Hangouts now includes SMS and MMS and a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
  • Upgraded Google Mobile Service™ (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.
  • Updated Lock Screen Features: The lock screen now allows users to quickly access the camera with a new shortcut and view album art while music is playing.
