Frisco, Texas, Mar. 04, 2014 – GENBAND, a leading developer of multimedia and cloud communications solutions, today announced that Dave Shier has been named Senior Vice President of Sales for Canada reporting directly to GENBAND’s President of Global Sales, Mark Pugerude. Originally from Canada, Mr. Shier most recently served as GENBAND’s Senior Vice President of Sales for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
In addition to the appointment of Mr. Shier as sales leader, GENBAND is reaffirming its commitment to the Canadian market by defining Canada as a distinct territory and area of focus for the company. GENBAND recently opened a state-of-the-art Canadian R&D Center of Excellence in Ottawa’s High-Tech park area. Approximately 25 percent of its global employee base is located in Ottawa and across the rest of the country. GENBAND’s presence in Canada began in 2010 with the successful acquisition of Nortel’s Carrier Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Application Solutions assets. Its customer base includes some of the largest telecommunications and cable operators in the country including Bell Aliant, TELUS, Videotron and Tbaytel.
“Canada is such an important market for GENBAND that we recently separated it from the Americas to make it a single area of focus,” said Mr. Pugerude. “GENBAND has a long, rich history in the Canadian market and some of our largest service provider customers are based in this region. Prior to leading the APAC region for GENBAND, Mr. Shier spent several years working with major Canadian telecommunications service providers, building and maintaining sales and business teams across wide and diverse territories throughout Canada.
