CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 13, 2014) – FairPoint Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: FRP), a leading northern New England wholesale telecommunications provider, is announcing enhancements to its E-Line Carrier Ethernet Services (CES).
FairPoint’s wholesale customers can deliver Ethernet services to their northern New England customers via FairPoint’s diverse network paths. FairPoint’s next-generation Ethernet network spans more than 16,000 route miles of fiber, and with Class and Quality of Service capabilities, enables carriers to better manage their traffic demands while seamlessly connecting to their customers.
The new E-Line CES enhancements, to be available later this month in locations served by a CES-enabled central office, include:
· Multi-Class of Service over a single Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC) – Allows customers to prioritize their traffic type for critical applications. This enhancement also supports dynamic bandwidth so the customer can customize bandwidth to suit their network needs, resulting in more manageable costs.
· Jumbo Frames – FairPoint’s E-Line CES will now support a Maximum Frame Size (MTU) of 2,000 bytes over copper facilities and 9,000 bytes over fiber facilities.
· Layer 2 Control Protocols (L2CP) – FairPoint will forward L2CPs through the network upon request for fiber-based networks.
“FairPoint has the largest owned and managed fiber network in northern New England, with more than 87 percent of our central offices enabled for Carrier Ethernet Services,” said Tony Tomae, executive vice president and chief revenue officer. “These CES enhancements allow FairPoint to provide the additional flexibility and reliability the wholesale market demands.”
FairPoint’s wholesale business team will be on hand at the COMPTEL PLUS Spring 2014 Convention & EXPO from March 16-19, 2014, to discuss these new CES enhancements. To schedule a time to meet with a wholesale account manager at the event, visit www.fairpoint.com/wholesale.
