Huawei Honored with UN Global Compact China Network’s Best Practice Award, 2013 for its Supply Chain Practices

[Shenzhen, China, February 25, 2014]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced that it has been awarded with the Best Practice award from the United Nations Global Compact China Network. The award recognizes Huawei’s supply chain management and highlighted its cross-industry collaboration and promotion of a win-win supply chain ecosystem.

The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) award was announced by the then United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, Kofi Annan and officially launched at the UN headquarters in New York in July, 2000. The Global Compact is a principle-based framework for businesses, stating ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. Since joining the UNGC in 2004, Huawei’s dedication to the highest international standards have been recognized with the 2012 CSR Best Practice award.

Huawei’s approach in this area is to develop a sustainable global supply chain through positive and proactive cross-industry collaboration The company also actively obtains feedback from its customers and incorporates sustainability into its core business processes, exploring value opportunities, and enhanced capabilities for suppliers. Working in partnership with its global customers and partners, Huawei has developed a healthy business ecosystem that shares resources, risks, and benefits. As a result of a Value Chain Analysis (VCA), Huawei has actively established collaborative relationships with customers, suppliers, industry associations, and non-governmental organizations, and Academia in offering new solutions to supply chain social and environmental issues.

Huawei advocates industry collaboration and participates in standards development with industry stakeholders. In 2013, Huawei jointly organized seminars with British Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, and Vodafone. In the last decade, Huawei has formulated industry standards by working with IPC, the Association Connecting Electronics Industries. Huawei also actively collaborates with suppliers, improving management capabilities and efficiency. Huawei has hosted the Global Supplier Sustainability Conference for five consecutive years, inviting customers, suppliers, industry associations, and non-governmental organizations to convene to develop industry standards.

In addition, Huawei supports sustainability in procurement operations and processes, and partners with non-governmental organizations to promote green procurement. As proved by Huawei’s practices, cross-industry collaboration significantly improves cooperation efficiency and overall competitive edge of supply chain while reducing operational risks.
