EVOSWITCH TO PROMOTE RENEWABLE ENERGY USE DIRECTLY TO ITS CUSTOMERS

Renewed power contract with Nuon Energy allows for 100 per cent renewable powered colocation services

Amsterdam, 24 February, 2014 – EvoSwitch, a leading provider of sustainable and innovative carrier-neutral data center services, today announced it has contracted specific Guarantees of Origin coming from Dutch Wind Parks, to an equivalent of an 800kW wind turbine like installed in Nuon’s Enkhuizen wind farm. The Guarantees of Origin are part of a multi-year, multi-Megawatt contract for renewable energy. The contract secures sufficient power from N.V. Nuon Energy, part of Vattenfall AB, guaranteeing EvoSwitch’s Dutch data center operations with sustainable growth powered by green renewable energy sources for the coming years.

Both CEOs unveiled a large sign at Nuon Energy’s Enkhuizen wind farm to celebrate the agreement, terms of which are undisclosed.

Nuon Energy will provide EvoSwitch with power derived from completely renewable sources, including hydro and wind energy. What sets it apart, is that EvoSwitch can now offer customers partly wind-powered colocation services in its Amsterdam data centers, provided by wind farms in the Netherlands serviced by N.V. Nuon Energy. Since its start seven years ago, EvoSwitch has put a strong emphasis on using renewable energy sources wherever possible, while offsetting any remaining carbon footprints.

Says Eric Boonstra, CEO of EvoSwitch, “We see a definite demand for sustainable colocation services across our customer base. Our new ability to promote renewable energy sources by offering wind energy directly to our customers will create more awareness that power-hungry cloud environments can still be sustainable. It is also proof that investing in a sustainable energy model ultimately allows us to lead in energy savings, which in our industry translates into cost leadership. We felt that Nuon Energy was the ideal partner for what we wanted. Their flexibility and professionalism are close to our own core values.”

Peter Smink, CEO of N.V. Nuon Energy added: “I think it’s good that a large international company like EvoSwitch chooses for large-scale use of renewable energy. As their energy partner, we are pleased that we can contribute to this and that we can provide EvoSwitch with 100% green energy.”

The agreement fits in EvoSwitch’s sustainability strategy which rests on using green, renewable energy sources while saving as much as possible on power usage in its multi-tenant data centers. EvoSwitch has invested heavily in self-contained modular suites, free outside air cooling mixed with adiabatic cooling concepts. EvoSwitch also offsets its -limited- CO2 footprint with so-called carbon credits.
