WASHINGTON, Feb. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc. (NYSE:DFT, news, filings) announced today that its Ashburn Corporate Campus (“ACC”) now utilizes reclaimed water for the four data centers with evaporative cooling plants. These four data centers – ACC3, ACC4, ACC5, and ACC6 – comprise more than 1.1 million gross square feet and 112 megawatts (“MW”) of critical power available for use by DFT’s customers. DFT’s ACC7 data center facility, currently under construction and representing an additional 446,000 gross square feet and totaling 41.6 MW of critical power when fully developed, also will utilize reclaimed water for its evaporative cooling plant.

“Those of our customers who have pledged Corporate Social Responsibility expect their data center providers to support their “green” business practices,” said Lee Kestler, Senior Vice President of Sales and Leasing for DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc. “DFT’s conversion from potable to reclaimed water at the Ashburn Corporate Campus further supports our customers’ environmental objectives and is an example of DFT’s commitment to limiting our use of potable water, a precious resource. Our customers also are very cost conscious. This conversion will reduce the cost of water consumption by 50 to 65 percent, and these cost savings are directly passed through to our customers under our triple-net leases.”
By converting the ACC evaporative cooling plants to reclaimed water usage, the Company has lowered its environmental impact in two important ways. First, the Company has significantly reduced its consumption of potable water. Second, the Company’s use of reclaimed water reduces the amount of treated effluent water the local water authority would otherwise discharge into local waterways.
“We are always energy and environmentally conscious in the approach to our data center designs,” said Scott Davis, Executive Vice President of Operations for DuPont Fabros Technology, Inc. “DFT has obtained LEED certification at each of its facilities developed and delivered since 2009, and we design and construct our facilities with industry-leading Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE); reducing the amount of power necessary to operate the facility.”
In 2012, DFT received the Recycled Water Customer of the Year award from the WateReuse Association California Section for implementing a reclaimed water system at its SC1 facility located in Santa Clara, California.
