Sprint Named Most “Eco Focused” Wireless Carrier

2014 Compass Intelligence Mobility Awards honors Sprint as most environmentally minded wireless carrier

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), January 09, 2014 – Compass Intelligence, a global market acceleration research and consulting firm, has named Sprint (NYSE:S, news, filings) the most “Eco Focused Wireless Carrier” at the 2014 Compass Intelligence Awards luncheon – a special event held at the Consumer Electronics Show this week in Las Vegas. The awards recognized the best mobile computing, wireless data communications, Machine-to-Machine, and eco-friendly products and services offered in the market during the past year. Sprint has been widely recognized among the Fortune 500 for its environmental efforts and received the award based on the carrier’s continued commitment and leadership to environmental business practices.

“It’s not surprising that Sprint scored the highest in the eco-focused carrier category,” says Kate Pearce, strategist and senior consultant at Compass Intelligence. “The carrier has consistently led the industry in eco-friendly efforts. It was one of the first U.S. carriers to launch an in-store mobile device buyback program. The company also champions eco-friendly mobile devices and has reduced waste via streamlined packaging and more. Sprint continues to drive the wireless industry to be more green.”

More than 60 analysts and journalists who cover the mobile and wireless industry voted on the Mobility Awards. The voting panel consisted of representatives from Compass Intelligence and such analyst firms as Gartner, IHS, Frost & Sullivan, Strategy Analytics, Current Analysis, Ovum and Yankee Group. The media were represented by journalists from Forbes, Chicago Tribune, TMC, ComputerWorld, RCR Wireless, Consumer Reports and Network World. Winners were selected based on the number of votes they received.

Sprint’s commitment to decrease energy use, enable more eco-friendly mobile solutions, and offer industry-leading wireless recycling programs remains a core part of its business strategy and continues to receive recognition. Sprint was recognized in the CDP S&P 500 Climate Change Report 2013, which tracks how America’s largest listed companies are responding to climate change. Sprint was the only telecommunications company named to CDP’s S&P 500 Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI), which highlights companies that demonstrate strategies committed to improving their impact on the environment.

Sprint also was named for the third consecutive year to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) North America, which tracks the corporate sustainability performance of the top 20 percent of the 600 largest companies by industry in the United States and Canada.
