Fred Kemmerer to contribute strategic insight on transition of PSTN to IP
Frisco, Texas, Dec. 12, 2013 – GENBAND, a leading developer of multimedia and cloud communications solutions, today announced that its Chief Technology Officer, Fred Kemmerer, has been appointed to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Technological Advisory Council (TAC). The TAC is comprised of leading technology experts who help the FCC identify important areas of innovation and develop informed technology policies supporting America’s competitiveness and job creation in the global economy. Mr. Kemmerer’s appointment was announced during the Council’s Dec. 9th meeting.
“This is an exciting time to work with the FCC, particularly as the pace of the transition from the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to Internet Protocol (IP)-based communications solutions continues to accelerate,” said Mr. Kemmerer. “GENBAND’s demonstrated expertise in transforming legacy networks to IP provides special insight into the issues, challenges and solutions that accompany the transition. I am pleased to work with the Council in addressing this vital transformation of communications networks nationwide.”
Mr. Kemmerer is an experienced telecommunications executive with a broad background across a variety of communications technologies, including wireless, IP, multiservice switching and routing, next-generation core networks and broadband access. GENBAND’s CTO since 2008, his leadership and expertise has played an integral role in helping the company assume a global leadership role in providing industry-leading technology and network transformation solutions to the top telecommunications operators around the world.
Prior to joining GENBAND, Mr. Kemmerer held leadership positions at Lucent and Alcatel-Lucent, including technical compliance officer, where he provided technical guidance and consulted with multiple U.S. government agencies on current and next-generation communications network architecture and security. He holds a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University and a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University, where he studied Electrical Engineering.
