Cisco Honored With “Ten-Year Recognition Award for Outstanding Contribution in Corporate Social Responsibility”

Beijing, December 11, 2013 — Cisco was awarded the “Ten-Year Recognition Award for Outstanding Contribution in Corporate Social Responsibility” at a ceremony jointly hosted by 21st Century Business Review, 21st Century Business Herald and the 21st Century Corporate Citizenship Research Center in Beijing on December 4, which was held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the best corporate citizenship evaluation conducted by the 21st Century Media Group.

The annual best corporate citizenship evaluation conducted by 21st Century Media Group is the earliest and most prestigious CSR event in China, and Cisco has received “China’s Best Corporate Citizenship Award” from the 21st Century Media Group eight times. This “Ten-Year Recognition Award” recognizes Cisco’s outstanding contributions as a corporate citizen in China during the last 10 years. According to the panel, Cisco as a corporate citizen has developed systematic CSR programs by integrating CSR into its business model, taking advantage of its expertise in information and communications technology to promote innovation and contribute to community development. The panel acknowledges that Cisco has also been partnering with government agencies and NGOs regarding long-term capacity building in education, health care, economic development, etc.

Since entering China in 1994, Cisco has achieved remarkable accomplishments through its CSR efforts, such as Cisco Networking Academy™ and “Connecting Sichuan”. In 2013, Cisco teamed up with the United Foundation for Children’s Health (UFCH) to launch an innovative “Connected Healthy Children Program”. In addition to a cash donation of RMB 1 million to the program, Cisco has also deployed its collaboration and Cisco WebEx® technology solutions in support of the initiative. This program aims at helping underserved children to gain access to quality healthcare resources, providing professional training and guidance for doctors and caregivers in remote areas, and increasing the efficiency of health care delivery in local regions.

“CSR has been the foundation of Cisco’s corporate culture and global strategies,” said Owen Chan, Chairman and CEO, Cisco Greater China. “Cisco’s CSR programs are designed to create value for the society, for the environment and for our business as well. Cisco will stay true to its commitment to China, working together with government agencies, NGOs and partners to take advantage of our advanced information and communications technology to connect the unconnected, fulfill social responsibilities through innovative CSR models, and further promote the sustainable development of China’s society, economy and environment.”
