AT&T Invites Developers to Explore the Art of the Possible with Machine-to-Machine Solutions

AT&T M2X Developer Kit Gives Developers Tools to Build Connected Device Proof of Concepts and Manage Machine Data in the AT&T Cloud

Dallas, Texas, December 17, 2013

AT&T* is helping to fuel innovation for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications with a cloud-based M2M “developer sandbox,” called the AT&T M2X Developer Kit. AT&T is giving application and device developers the tools they need to connect, store and share data. From trucks and turbines to heart monitors and vending machines, with the AT&T M2X Developer Kit, the possibilities for M2M innovation are endless.

AT&T M2X Developer Kit is an exciting combination of two AT&T services for developers to use to manage connected devices and data from device prototype to product launch:

  • AT&T M2X is a new cloud-based managed data storage service for M2M devices, enabling businesses of all sizes to manage the data they collect from connected devices. The service allows for highly-secure data transmission and data sharing and near real-time event management.
  • AT&T Control Center powered by Jasper Wireless allows M2M developers to sign up, receive and activate SIMs (subscriber identity module), and then transmit and collect the data from these SIMs on any connected machine. AT&T Control Center offers a one-stop solution for network provisioning, device activation, customer support, billing options, performance audits and more for connected devices.

Birdi, a company that provides consumers with a safe, sophisticated, simple air quality device monitored from the palm of their hand, is already using AT&T M2X to provide a connected experience. The Birdi Smart Air Detector monitors air quality, everyday health hazards, pollution and emergencies like fire and carbon monoxide so that people can stay connected and protected in their home. Birdi sends communications in the way most convenient for the user: smartphone app notification, SMS or phone call.

“Birdi is a data-driven company that connects to people on their landline and cell phones,” said Mark Belinsky, CEO, Birdi. “We’re excited to work with AT&T to utilize data and connectivity to keep homes healthier and safer than they’ve ever been.”

“AT&T M2X is the direct result of AT&T Foundry innovation and agile execution,” said Mike Troiano, Vice President, Advanced Mobility Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions. “In a very short period of time, we’ve integrated various AT&T assets and created a sandbox that gives developers the tools they need to build M2M applications never seen before. The possibilities are endless for new M2M applications and services to emerge.”

AT&T M2X will debut for developers during the AT&T Developer Summit Hackathon on January 4 – 5, 2014. For more information on the AT&T Developer Summit, visit https://devsummit.att.com/.

AT&T’s commitment to M2M is exemplified by the AT&T Foundry innovation centers, including the new M2M-focused facility in Plano, Texas. The facility prototypes new M2M technologies and platforms for business customers to help them quickly bring M2M solutions to market.

AT&T is a global leader in M2M communications. As of Q3 2013, AT&T has 15.9 million connected devices on its network and has certified more than 1,800 types of connected devices.
