Zayo Announces Expansion in Miami Market

BOULDER, Colo.—Nov. 19, 2013—Zayo Group, LLC (“Zayo”), an international provider of Bandwidth Infrastructure services, announces expansion of services in the Miami market. zColo, Zayo’s colocation business unit, is constructing its newest facility in downtown Miami and building out a metro fiber network into Zayo’s existing Miami location. The Digital Realty Trust (DRT) data center, located at 36 NE 2nd St. in downtown Miami, will house zColo’s first location in Miami, joining other recent zColo expansions in the Seattle, Austin, Phoenix and Chicago markets.

Zayo’s investment in Miami includes building a high-count fiber ring to connect the DRT data center to the NAP of the Americas at 50 NE 9th St., opening up network access for other key facilities in the Miami central business district. zColo will occupy 24,000 square feet of colocation space on the 7th floor of the DRT building, supporting up to 4 megawatts of utility power with a fully redundant (N+1) power and cooling infrastructure. The facility will be staffed locally to provide Zayo’s remote hands solutions, and will be monitored by Zayo’s 24×7 network control center.

zColo can provide diverse in-building access to 15 major carriers, as well as a virtual presence in the NAP of the Americas data center via Zayo’s metro-interconnect dark fiber solution. The expansion will facilitate access to Zayo’s full suite of services, including dark fiber, wavelengths, Ethernet, SONET, IP, and professional services.

Zayo recently announced expansion of longhaul connectivity in the southeast region, bringing Richmond, Raleigh, Tampa and Orlando onto the Zayo network, and providing diverse connectivity into Miami. The addition of colocation and dark fiber services in Miami will expand Bandwidth Infrastructure options in a prospering market for voice, video and data traffic servicing South and Central America. This network investment supports critical connectivity with key Latin American fiber providers in Miami, and helps address the substantial data demands of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 XXXI Olympic Summer Games, both in Brazil.

“Miami’s significance to Latin American regions and growth as a critical data center market made it an expansion target for zColo,” says Greg Friedman, vice president of zColo. “Besides enabling data traffic between Latin American and domestic customers, this new investment allows regional customers to access our US and European fiber network.”

The colocation facility will be completed in the first quarter of 2014, and zColo has pre-leased 40% of the phase 1 build out. To learn more please visit
