New Mobility Solution from XO Communications Extends Office Phone and Collaboration Tools to Employee Personal BYOD Smartphones

XO Communications today announced a new mobility solution that puts the business phone and other work-related communications tools on personal smartphones and PCs, empowering employees to collaborate and be more productive wherever they go, regardless of device.  XO WorkTime revolutionizes both mobility and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) strategies by bringing together business voice, video chat, instant messaging (IM) and presence into a consistent experience across personal smartphones and PCs for a seamless end-to-end unified communications experience.

XO WorkTime extends the business customer’s XO VoIP, Hosted PBX or SIP trunking service to the employee’s personal smartphone, providing enterprise IT and network managers the flexibility to implement mobility initiatives with their BYOD strategies while also reducing costs and eliminating the need to provide company mobile phones. Employees simply download XO WorkTime to their smartphone or PC and launch the application to talk, video chat or IM as if they were using their business telephone. XO WorkTime also enforces persona boundaries, maintaining separation between work and personal identities on smartphones, ensuring employees’ personal phone numbers, applications and information remain private.

According to a Gartner April 11, 2013, report, “Bring Your Own Device: The Facts and the Future,” by David Willis, “by 2017 half of employers will require employees to supply their own device for work purposes.” The report goes on to say that, “Bring-your-own-device strategies are the most radical change to the economics and the culture of client computing in business in decades. The benefits include creating new mobile workforce opportunities, increasing employee satisfaction, and reducing or avoiding costs.”

“As the lines become increasingly blurred between personal and business usage of today’s most popular mobile devices, the implementation of mobility and BYOD strategies have become some of the most compelling CIO initiatives. XO WorkTime helps organizational leaders expand their mobility options by leveraging the proliferation of smartphones in the workplace while also protecting data and applications and enforcing enterprise security policies,” said Jake Heinz, vice president of marketing for XO Communications. “When CIOs put applications, such as XO WorkTime, in place and manage them with enterprise BYOD policies, organizations can benefit from the advantages that personal smartphones can bring to the workplace while minimizing exposure to would-be security risks.”

XO WorkTime functions by using the smartphone’s data network or WiFi connection to transmit communications.  With XO WorkTime, businesses no longer need separate service plans for office phones and mobile phones as business calls are centrally managed and summarized on a single invoice no matter which device originates or terminates the communication. Encrypted mobile device management, mobile application management and application passwords also help organizations enforce just the right levels of BYOD behaviors and deactivation of the service when necessary. Finally, enterprises enjoy free, unlimited calling between offices, regardless of device used since XO WorkTime leverages the high-capacity XO nationwide network.
