OPENS NEW FACILITY IN BOGOTA IN RESPONSE TO REGIONAL DEMAND
Nov 20, 2013
BOGOTA, COLOMBIA, Nov. 20, 2013 – Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE:LVLT, news, filings) today announced the expansion of its data center infrastructure with the completion of its newest data center in Bogota, Colombia. The new facility adds 1,700 square meters to Level 3’s current data center complex in Bogota and was built in response to growing regional demand for world-class network and IT services as enterprises increasingly adopt cloud-based applications.
This new facility offers a holistic solution for regional enterprises, enabling them to expand space, power and services as necessary to meet their needs as well as helping them simplify operations, improve administrative efficiency and reduce maintenance expenses. As one of Level 3’s Premier Elite data centers, the facility is also designed to grow its Dynamic Enterprise Computing (DEC) cloud service, hosting critical managed solutions to improve cloud-based application performance, reliability and security.
“Demand for colocation, housing, hosting and value-added services continues to grow in Colombia as the adoption of cloud-based applications increases,” said Gabriel del Campo, Level 3’s senior vice president of Data Centers for Latin America. “As a result, companies are increasingly looking to outsource these services to ensure they can capitalize on efficient cloud solutions and remain focused on their core business objectives. Level 3’s data center services range from traditional network equipment hosting to comprehensive support for managed IT solutions, helping position enterprises for successful growth amid a dynamic global marketplace.”
Managed by an on-site team of experienced technical specialists, the facility is compliant with the latest Colombian building code specifications (NSR-10 Zone 4) for earthquake preparedness, as well as industry guidelines (EIA/TIA 942) for energy and environmental conditioning from the Uptime Institute for a Tier III data center.
Additionally, the new data center has been built using the 2N philosophy (system + system), which results in higher redundancy and reliability. As with all Level 3 data centers, this facility follows the highest security standards, including 7X24 guards, digital CCTV system and dual-authentication access to sensitive areas.
