Frontier Communications Named a “Top 100” 2014 Military Friendly Employer®

Partnerships, local and corporate support extend robust focus on military hiring

STAMFORD, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Frontier Communications (NYSE:FTR, news, filings) announced today that it has been named a “Top 100” 2014 Military Friendly Employer® by Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse. As part of this recognition, Frontier representatives will join other military-friendly and military spouse-friendly employers in ringing the NASDAQ Closing Bell today. More than 11 percent of Frontier employees are military veterans and reservists.

“We are honored to be in the top tier of companies that embrace military service members, veterans and spouses as employees,” said Maggie Wilderotter, Chairman and CEO of Frontier. More than 5,000 companies competed for the elite Military Friendly Employer ® title via a data-driven survey. Criteria included a benchmark score across key programs and policies such as the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs, and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.

Mrs. Wilderotter notes, “I have been married for more than 36 years to a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy who is a veteran of the Persian Gulf conflict. I know the worry that comes from having a loved one in a battle zone. It is one reason I am among the many at Frontier who believe it is our duty to offer employment to military veterans and their families.”

“The 2014 Military Friendly Employers® represent the preeminent tier of companies with strong military recruitment programs and meaningful job opportunities for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment,” said Sean Collins, Vice President for Victory Media and a nine-year Navy veteran. “Our Military Friendly Employers® constitute the group of companies actually moving the needle and hiring from the military community. These employers reported hiring more than 117,000 service members and spouses over the last 12 months, representing an average of 14 percent of total new hires.”

Today’s designation is the latest recognition of Frontier’s commitment to veteran hiring. At a November 5thPentagon ceremony, Frontier was inducted into the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), part of the Department of Defense Spouse Education and Career Opportunities Program to connect military spouses to more than 200 partner employers committed to helping them find employment, increase their education and experience, and achieve career and personal goals. The MSEP includes corporations, small businesses and other organizations that post job openings on the MSEP Career Portal. Frontier actively participates in the 100,000 Jobs Mission, the Employer Partnership of the Armed Forces and Joining Forces.

“Hiring veterans, their spouses and partners is not just the right thing to do, but a strategic investment by Frontier,” said Frontier Executive Vice President for Human Resources & Administrative Services Cecilia K. McKenney. “Leadership, teamwork, accountability and discipline are critical values at Frontier and present in all of our hires, especially those with a military connection.”

Frontier employees in 27 states are recognizing veterans in a variety of ways. Many locations feature a “Wall of Heroes” covered with letters and photos about military service past and present. President and COO, Dan McCarthy, a 15-year veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve, is thanking Frontier veterans with a letter, a unique “Frontier Veteran” pin and a company-wide video webcast. Employees and their families are involved in Operation Write Home to create cards and write letters to deployed troops.

“This is one of the most fulfilling initiatives Frontier has been involved in, and we are a better company for it. I strongly encourage every employer to access the many resources that offer gainful employment to a veteran and his or her family,” says Mr. McCarthy. “Frontier is a hiring advocate in our local markets and through our national supplier relationships. We hope other companies join this cause.”
