China Unicom Expands North American Footprint with New Point of Presence in Seattle

Herndon, VA – November 19, 2013 China Unicom (Americas) Operations Limited (CUA), a wholly owned subsidiary of China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited, today announces the expansion of its North American network with its new Point-of-Presence (PoP), located in The Westin Building at 2001 6th Avenue in Seattle. Heralded as the “most connected data center in the Pacific Northwest,” the new Seattle PoP serves as an ideal location for CUA to increase proximity and extend its data networking services to customers in North America and Canada.

China Unicom is a leading telecom service provider in China. As its US subsidiary, CUA delivers international solutions that support various bandwidth requirements and physical interfaces, ranging from T1/E1 up to 10G waves. The company also provides network diversity via multiple transpacific network routes, and offers the fastest latency route from the US to China utilizing the Trans-Pacific Express (TPE) submarine cable system.

The new strategically located Seattle PoP allows CUA to extend its premier product and service lines even closer to its customers, offering connectivity throughout North America, including low latency routes to financial hubs such as New York and Chicago.

“Our new PoP in Seattle is indicative of our expanding network here in North America, further strengthening our global network delivery capabilities to meet growing customer needs,” states CUA President Wu Yitao. “The Pacific Northwest region in particular is experiencing a surge in its economy, drawing in businesses that require a strong network with an international reach. China Unicom Americas is pleased to expand our network in this region to address such demands.”

With the addition of the Seattle PoP, CUA has added to its strong existing network of North American PoPs, including locations in New York, Los Angeles, San Jose, Miami, Dallas, Chicago, and Toronto, Canada. Globally, China Unicom’s vast network covers more than 100 countries with direct connections and partnership agreements in place with more than 85 international carriers.
