  • IMS supports new and enhanced multimedia applications enabling TELUS to offer its customers advanced services and an enhanced user experience
  • Contract includes comprehensive systems integration services and technology based on Rich Communication Services (RCS) and Voice over LTE (VoLTE)

Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC, news, filings) has signed a key contract with TELUS for the development and deployment of an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), the foundation for communication services over LTE and other accesses. The implementation of Ericsson’s IMS technology will enable TELUS to offer advanced, convergent services in voice, data and video calling over both wireline and wireless networks to customers across Canada.

As a global leader in network convergence solutions, Ericsson’s IMS will allow TELUS to leverage the latest telecommunications developments, equipping the Canadian carrier with the most innovative technology.

The continued consolidation of TELUS’ wireless and fixed systems will strengthen its framework for the agile delivery of core telecommunications services, further enhancing its consumer experience. With more than 12 million customer connections TELUS’ customers will have the ability to access a variety of multimedia functions and applications including High Definition voice, management across multiple devices, and video calling over LTE.

Eros Spadotto, executive vice-president, Technology Strategy and Operations, TELUS says: “We have a relentless focus on delivering to Canadians world-class entertainment and communication experiences. Harnessing the power of IMS technology is something we’re very excited about as it will enable us to offer next-generation solutions that transform the way our customers live, work, and play”.

Fredrik Alatalo, executive vice-president and general manager for Ericsson in Canada says: “We are excited to collaborate with TELUS in the deployment of the latest technologies in IMS, providing Canadian consumers with enhanced multimedia applications. IMS enables operators to offer a range of new and enhanced services to their customers at an affordable cost.”

IMS is a cost-efficient system that will enable TELUS to generate new revenue streams through differentiated services based on the Rich Communication Services (RCS) and Voice over LTE (VoLTE).

Ericsson has signed over 110 commercial IMS contracts worldwide, of which around 70 are in commercial operation, establishing the company as the world’s most-experienced IMS partner.
