Wi-Fi, Distributed Antenna System and Mobile Application Offer State-of-the-Art Experience for Attendees on Gamedays

Fort Worth , Texas, October 25, 2013

When a big play happens at Amon G. Carter Stadium, Texas Christian University (TCU) fans can share in the action while connected to a new AT&T Wi-Fi in-stadium Network. In addition, AT&T has joined a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at the home of the TCU Horned Frogs to bring enhanced mobile coverage for fans and visitors at the collegiate sports venue.

“We are extremely proud of our collaboration with AT&T in enhancing the game-day fan experience at Amon G. Carter Stadium,” said Chris Del Conte, TCU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. “Through its state-of-the-art Wi-Fi network, which is being admired and emulated by colleagues across the country, AT&T has enabled us to set the standard in connectivity at a sports venue. This extends to all aspects of fans enjoying the in-game experience, from communicating with others to stats, highlights, out-of-town scores and even ordering food from the convenience of their seats through our Bypass Lane.”

New Wi-Fi and DAS services will allow TCU fans to:

  • Connect to the new AT&T Wi-Fi service in the stands, ticketing, press and concession stand areas via more than 345 access points throughout the stadium.
  • Experience enhanced Wi-Fi and 4G LTE coverage for a better network experience to surf the web, check scores and share on social media sites in the +45,000 seat venue.
  • Enjoy the benefits of a more seamless network experience thanks to the DAS powering AT&T’s network. The 140-antenna DAS covers the area inside the stadium and also boosts coverage outside the stadium’s major entrances.

“TCU is a leader when it comes to integrating mobile technology to enhance the fan experience,” said Chris Roy, Vice President- Government and Education, AT&T.  “AT&T and TCU have a long standing and innovative relationship and we are excited to work with TCU to enhance the experience for students, alumni, and fans attending athletic events for years to come.”

DAS technology consists of many antennas tuned to precisely match the area of a building where boosted service is needed to help improve call reliability, increase data traffic capacity and enable more consistent network access on their AT&T devices at the stadium.

These two technologies will work in unison to provide an unparalleled level of connectivity. With this state-of-the-art technology in place, it will be easier than ever for fans to enjoy the latest mobile applications in the stadium, including the TCU Mobile app.

The TCU Mobile app puts fans in the game even further by providing fans scores and stats, football news, parking maps and more. AT&T helped make the experience at Amon G. Carter Stadium even more seamless by working with TCU to add the “Bypass Lane” feature to the application. Bypass Lane allows fans to skip the concession stand line by ordering food and drinks straight from their mobile device.

“In-stadium connectivity is becoming an essential component of the gameday experience at stadiums across the country. Whether fans are  using mobile apps, making calls, checking email or surfing the internet they are looking for reliable connectivity,” said Adam Vital, VP & General Manager- North Texas, AT&T. “TCU is looking to the future of the on-campus mobile experience and by turning to AT&T we worked together to create an enhanced network to power the in-stadium experience.”

In addition, AT&T has deployed a StadiumVision screen solution to further enhance the fan experience at Amon G. Carter Stadium. StadiumVision is designed to efficiently and cost-effectively deliver High-Definition video and digital content to all TV displays in the venue, creating unique, compelling experiences and interactive opportunities to engage fans.

“It is great to see two organizations investing and working together in Fort Worth to enhance both TCU’s campus and its football game experience,” said Charlie Geren, Fort Worth State Representative.

These investments help to ensure that Texas residents continue to enjoy the best possible experience over the AT&T network, whether at home, at work or on the go. The great performance of AT&T’s 4G LTE network continues to be validated:

  • AT&T has the fastest and now most reliable 4G LTE network.**  According to independent third-party data, AT&T has the highest success rate for delivering mobile content across nationwide 4G LTE networks.
  • Meanwhile, our 4G LTE service was recognized as having faster average download and upload speeds than any of our competitors in PCWorld/TechHive’s most recent 20-market speed tests – the second consecutive year that AT&T has ranked 1st overall.  PCWorld/TechHive also ranked AT&T’s as the fastest combination of 3G and 4G services in the 20 cities it tested.***
  • And AT&T was named America’s fastest 4G LTE network in PC Magazine’s 2013 Fastest Mobile Networks 30-market study – sweeping the top rankings in all six U.S. regions from coast to coast: Northeast, Southeast, North-Central, South-Central, Northwest and Southwest.****

In addition, RootMetrics® has awarded AT&T for strongest overall call, text, and data performance in 66 of 125 national markets from January through June of this year *****

Across Fort Worth and Texas, AT&T’s 2013 investments have resulted in expansion and enhancement of our 4G LTE network, which provides ultra-fast speeds.  AT&T 4G LTE is now available in Fort Worth as well as Dallas, Austin and San Antonio. Nationwide, nearly 250 million Americans have access to AT&T 4G LTE service.  By year-end 2013, AT&T expects to cover nearly 270 million people and 400 markets with its 4G LTE network.

AT&T’s focus to deliver the best possible mobile Internet experience goes beyond 4G to embrace additional connection technologies. AT&T operates the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network****** including more than 32,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots at popular restaurants, hotels, bookstores and retailers, and provides access to more than 461,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn’t count against customers’ monthly wireless data plans.

Over the past five years, AT&T invested nearly $98 billion into its wireless and wireline networks across the country. Since 2008, AT&T has invested more capital into the U.S. economy than any other public company. In a July 2012 report, the Progressive Policy Institute ranked AT&T No. 1 on its list of U.S. “Investment Heroes.”
